N.Y. Yankees Top 5 Pitching Prospects

The Yankees are on the verge of creating one of the more talented groups of young pitchers in the nation (of course, the recent struggles of Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain’s latest shoulder concerns could put a damper on the whole process). They have some very talented pitchers coming up through their system, and the Yanks could have a very strong rotation in 5 to 8 years.

Rank, Player, Age.

1. Jairo Heredia, 18…

Is the Adam G. who runs the website the same person that posted this? If so, is he intentionally attempting to have people rip him?

I decided to poke around some of the older entries and found the following on the top 5 hitting and pitching prospects for Oakland;

1. Chris Carter -- While not a big hitter for average, Carter is capable of a .900+ OPS and 40+ home runs. I'll be interested to see what happens at first base between him and Daric Barton.
Prime Projection: .290 ave., 44 home runs, .930 OPS
Comparable Player: Eric Davis, Jay Buhner

Ah, Lake Prospectbegone, where the children are all over average to Hall of Fame track. . . except for the one we've seen.

Comparisons to Pedro Martinez aren’t a stretch by any means.

Really? I haven't seen the kid pitch, but unless he has pinpoint command of three plus-plus pitches, I would have to call it a stretch.

Comparisons to Pedro Martinez aren’t a stretch by any means.

Projection: Solid #2, possible #1
Comparable player: Pedro Martinez

What. The. Hell.

I don't want to be rude, but I see more realistic comps at NYYFans for these kids -- now that the cubed transformation guy is gone at least.

I also find it weird that he'd include a relief prospect and it's not Melancon, who's much better than Robertson.

I think the more interesting thing on the Oakland link was to read that the A's have two future Francisco Lirianos, a Rich Harden and a Roy Oswalt. There's no chance of any of those four disappointing.

But yes, the Eric Davis comparison is stupid, as well.

Heredia: You play the same position as me.
Martinez: Yes.
Heredia: Are you better than me?
Martinez: Well, I've never met you, but... yes.

Jairo Heredia, 18 – Heredia emits sunshine. His sweat is the cure to 90% of the world's diseases. His fastball has been timed at 2 x the speed of light. Bats disintegrate at the sight of his name on a lineup card. Players who look at him directly will burst into flames. Do not taunt Heredia, as his thoughts can condemn you to a million lifetimes inside the very gates of Hell (or bring you the pleasure of a million Jeters). Heredia is love.

Projection: Ball of pure energy, savior of all life on planet, omnipotence
Comparable players: Jesus, Chris Truby
