Operation “Rotten Apple”: Major Drug Ring Busted in the Bronx on day of Big Game

As ground crews were cleaning the fields of Yankee Stadium early this morning, 450 law officers were cleaning the streets of three drug gangs just ten blocks away.

..

The three gangs had operated openly in two Bronx housing projects, selling crack cocaine and heroin.

Officers seized glassine bags of heroin labeled “American Gangster,” “Scorpian,” and “Poison.” They made 40 arrests and searched 22 locations.

The main drug dealing operation shut down was dubbed “the Courtland Avenue Organization.” Two other gangs were also shut down, federal and local authorities said.

...

“Residents of the Bronx have a couple of reasons to be happy today,” said current NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly. “The Yankees are back home and a major drug gang operating just ten blocks from the stadium was put out of business.”

10 Blocks away, The Bronx honors the late Steve Howe.

I thought Howe was into powder cocaine. Wasn't it Ken Caminitti who was a crackhead?

Hen Caminitti was an everythinghead. If you could shoot it, snort it, smoke it, drink it, or ingest it, he seemed willing to give it a try.

Plenty of the customers are residents of Manhattan.

they were already inconvenienced by ballgame congestion near the stadium

450 law officers!?

Who's minding the bank?

I doubt it. If you have to go from Manhattan to the Bronx to get your drugs, you're not doing it right.

Maybe the drugs in Manhattan are more expensive than in the Bronx. But if you're bargain shopping, you don't live in Manhattan.

I'd say the price of drugs in the Bronx just rose, at least temporarily.

Tease their spelling if you will but their knowledge of the metric system is probably much better than any of ours.

the link is #14 is funny. I of course learned in the classroom conversions such as 3.5 grams equals roughly 1/8 of an oz.

All around the world today, the kilo is the measure.

Of course, because there are 28 grams in an ounce.

Also, I'm disappointed there's no Phil Coke jokes here. After Utley's homer in game 5, IRC had:

"He hit coke harder than Michael Irvin" - mine
"Coke has fizzled"

And the best, kalvoski's headline for the next morning: "Coke blows on the bump"

Making the idea of becoming a drug dealer slightly more attractive. Yay, war on drugs.

My band in college that existed for 35 minutes did the greatest cover of Bel Biv Devoe's POISON in history. Three bass guitars and a drummer.

Three bass guitars and a drummer.

I think that Spinal Tap is the only other band that I've seen use that lineup

How the hell can a band have three bass players? Usually bands have 3 guitarists and can't find ONE bass player.

A valid question. And your answer:

Three bass guitars and a drummer.

The bass guitars had players. I cannot vouch for the types of players on these bass guitars.

You had me going there for a few minutes. I read about half the article thinking it was real. Only when I got to this line did I realize it was an Onion article:

Hoping to use the youths' metric zeal as "a springboard to further learning," the Department Of Education has launched "Da Math Skillz" program.

Not nearly as proud as Royce.
