Palm Beach Post: Volstad helps keep Marlins hot

Go ahead and call them long shots - which they still are - but the Marlins are feeling a little more like contenders after winning their sixth straight game Tuesday with a 5-1 victory over the Houston Astros. Leading the way was Volstad, who allowed a run on four hits in eight strong innings to help the Marlins gain ground in the NL East.
...
The Marlins, who will try to match their season-best seven-game winning streak tonight, have 12 games left. They’re 5 1/2 games behind Philadelphia, which moved into first place in the East after beating Atlanta.

The Marlins are five games back of the Mets in the wild-card standings.
...
“We don’t have the ‘(eliminated)’ next to the team name (in the standing). We’re still in this thing,” third baseman Jorge Cantu said. “This is fun. It’s a pennant race. We have to be aware of the other teams. If they win, they win. But at least we’re giving it a shot every day.”
