Any Cleveland/Montreal people have an opinion of him?
On the baseball side of ops, Huntington looks to be sixth guy on the totem pole.
(Hope this never happens.)I seem to recall hearing that he in fact did not. (Would you? Well, okay, would you if you were likely to have a wide choice of other GM jobs coming up in the future?)
"Where did Littlefield come from?"
He was from the Dombrowski tree: Started out in Montreal, then made his bones with the Marlins. Amusingly, Huntington, Littlefield, and Ed Creech were all co-workers in the front office of the 1997 Expos.
"But if you're going to raid the Indians' front office, why not take Antonetti? He's highly-regarded, isn't he? Did he just not want the Pittsburgh position?"
They supposedly asked him a couple of days ago, and he said he wasn't interested.
I don't find it amusing. Getting rid of Creech is half the point of this whole exercise. I hope he and Huntington aren't old buddies. If Creech is retained, we might as well have Littlefield back.
They do, however, employ a massive number of people in the areas of marketing, community relations and publications. I'm so comforted.
Well there you go.
As an aside, how ###### up does your organization have to be for someone to turn down a chance to become a major league general manager?
"Chris, we want you to be our general manager. Run the organization."
"Meh. I think that would really cut down on my ability to watch Ugly Betty. Thanks, though."
This is true.
So did Dayton Moore. Boston must be the worst club in MLB to work for. Best organization in baseball my ass!
I think Huntington just has a less defined role than everybody else, a jack of all trades if you will. He seems to interact with Belcher and Robby Thompson a lot; majors, minors, advance scouting, etc.
