Peter Gammons: The Mitchell Report Song

Shades of Ramblin’ Jack Illegit!

Andy Pettite’s apologized. Roger Clemens has sued. And Peter Gammons has written a song. He performed it at Sunday night’s “Hot Stove, Cool Music” event. We’ve got the lyrics:

Chorus

Canseco told Mitchell while on the Exxon Valdez
‘I can make you millions, help you throw 93
‘Bob Heise’d been Jim Rice if he knew what I know’
And there’s never been a low as low as Canseco.”

Thanks to Can’t Stop the Bleeding

Please retire.

There is little doubt in my mind that Gammons remains a great reporter but his work as a commentator and columnist has become hard to read or watch. His rage over the Mitchell report and inability to tackle the steroid story with even a fifth of the effort he uses on his puff pieces is sad. I seem to recall he DID have some good information on Caminiti after he passed but even then it seemed more of a 'shame he took all those drugs AFTER he played role.'

It's not his job or his responsibility to do much about what's going on post-Mitchell report but he COULD be playing a much larger role in a positive sense. Instead he seems destined to be the Larry King of the baseball world, and that's too bad.

Is this the first Bob Heise mention ever on Primer? Awesome.

.. I meant to say his not his job to FIX much about what's going on post-Mitchell, of course it's his job to at least report on it.

Sheesh, need more coffee. To the French press!

That photo sure reminded me of something

"the Stratocaster guitars slung over
Burgermeister beer guts....as they knit their brows to
cover the entire Hank Williams Song Book"

of course it's his job to at least report on it.

It was also his job to report on it for the last few decades.
