“I can’t say enough about Brett’s willingness to accept this assignment,” Gillick said. “He understood and is eager to get back on track again. He’s struggling right now, but he is a quality Major League pitcher who we are going to need in the second half of the season.”
Myers accepted the assignment, and because he has five-plus years in the Majors, he had the option to reject the demotion. Myers will start on Wednesday night against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees.

My thoughts exactly. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy....
Especially since he could be home a lot more often now.
Well, Gillick probably would've hit back.
Is it possible that he's just a total and complete head case? The quotes I read from him early in the season suggested that he just totally lost his confidence period.
I think that question has been answered for a while now.
Right, but being a head case doesn't translate to teams just mashing off of you, it turns into Perez or Zambrano-like meltdowns. Myers just gets rocked for the most part game in and game out. His fastball is the most hittable on the team. There may have been cases early on where he was throwing stupid pitches because he was angry, but for the most part, he is more like Zito in that he just doesn't have the stuff.
He looks like he is unhappy out there after the first hit, but that's because he should be unhappy: his fastball stinks.
They're both blonde, I guess.
