Shortstop Jack Wilson’s right index finger, the one that was bruised by a ground ball last week is fractured, and he might not be able to return until the final week of the Pirates’ season.
I may not be the biggest Jack Wilson fan, but I just plain hate Brian Bixler. Blah-blah-blah cup of tea blah-blah-blah find out in September blah-blah-blah; just watching him “bat” makes me sick to my stomach. Yeah, the Pirates have already guaranteed the most embarrassing streak of futility in professional sports; maybe they’ll play Cruz heavily there.

What the Pirates really need to do is keep Wilson (unless they can get a real return for him, which I'm skeptical about) as a transition to whichever of their SS prospects lower down turns into something. They've got a whole bunch--Friday, Mercer, D'Arnaud, Cunningham--somebody should step forward . . . no?
