Todays Eddie Sawyer,
He gets high on you,
And the space he invades
He gets by on you.

Wow, GGC, you're getting to be a regular Repoz with this Googling you're making me do.

I thought it was today's Rick Sawyer. The syllables scan better.

So when's the last time both teams had the pitcher batting 8th or higher?

Question for those of youzez who subscribe to Bill James online:

How often does the site come out with new articles?

How often does the site come out with new articles?

about every 4-5 days since mid-March.

There is also a Q&A;section called Hey Bill, which he answers submitted questions more frequently than that.

Yeah, but Eddie was mentioned on the front page of bb-ref today. That's where I get most of my inspiration for these lately.

Anyone know much about Jackie Mitchell, the 17 year old girl that struck out Gehrig and Ruth in an exhibition? Was it real or staged? Was she good enough to have played minor league ball had she been allowed?

How about today's Pedroia?

Just wanted to mention this silly line Wieters is putting up in his first pro stop

Don't know where to post this, but somebody needs to post this on the newsblog:

Best Game Ever.

I really like Improv Everywhere and what they do.

It was posted here last week, SdeB.

Hey no apology necessary. I approached that video with a healthy degree of cynicism, but I thought it was actually pretty cool.

The Kane County Cougars are the only unbeaten team in pro ball, improving to 10-0 with a 17 inning win last night.

There was an interesting rules situation: Kane County's DH (Shane Keough, reality TV "star" and son of Matt Keough) pitched a scoreless 14th inning, which forced him out of the game because the team lost its DH.

This is probably insanely easy for the brainiacs here, but I had forgotten the answer and was slightly surprised when I saw this:

Name the opening day starting pitcher(s) for the 1993 and 1994 Florida Marlins. For extra credit, who was the Fish's opening day center fielder in '93?
   16. Bob "Jugement" Dernier Posted: April 14, 2008 at 03:12 PM (#2743690)
I knew the Florida starter(s), but had no clue about the CF.
   17. Boots Day Posted: April 14, 2008 at 03:18 PM (#2743697)
I think it was Chuckie Carr in CF. I don't know the opening day starter, but Charlie Hough seems like a good guess.

I think it was Chuckie Carr in CF. I don't know the opening day starter, but Charlie Hough seems like a good guess.

Nope. Carr was the opening day starter in 94, but not in 93. You're right on Hough though, for both years.
   19. Boots Day Posted: April 14, 2008 at 03:23 PM (#2743707)

That one was tough. I should have bet some dough.

OK, I'm through.

*cough*

There was some Primey-winning post about -ough, but I have no idea how to find it.
   22. Boots Day Posted: April 14, 2008 at 03:43 PM (#2743732)
I'm sure it involves Benny Bengough and Pork Chop Pough.

I remember Chuck Carr--about 5'8 and he rolled up his sleeves over his biceps. Without looking, I'm guessing his lifetime SLG was about .375
   24. Lefty, Monty, And The Moose (Walewander) Posted: April 14, 2008 at 03:59 PM (#2743753)
Chuckie hacks on 2-0.
   25. Mike Emeigh Posted: April 14, 2008 at 04:03 PM (#2743759)
I was guessing Nigel Wilson, but that was wrong. I'd forgotten that the guy who actually started there ever even played for the Marlins.

EDIT: He was making his major league debut, though.

The center fielder in question.

You have no idea how badly I wanted to rickroll everyone there.
   27. Lou Potent Potables (Dan Lee) Posted: April 14, 2008 at 04:06 PM (#2743765)
I'd forgotten that the guy who actually started there ever even played for the Marlins.

I remember watching that game knowing absolutely nothing about the mystery center fielder, and thinking at the time that he looked like a pretty good ballplayer.

My opinion has changed since then.
   28. Harold Reynolds: An Erotic Life (AG#1F) Posted: April 14, 2008 at 04:14 PM (#2743779)
My guess was Monty Fariss. Remember Monty Fariss?
   29. Delorians Posted: April 14, 2008 at 04:18 PM (#2743789)
I was going to guess Alex Cole.

(checks BBref)

Right year, wrong expansion team.
   30. bunyon Posted: April 14, 2008 at 04:41 PM (#2743823)
I know Monty Fariss. And I barely remember him. Actually, he's played for the same high school my dad did (though at very different dates, obviously).

Wilson Betimet on the DL with pinkeye. Roster shenanigans?
