The Marlins continue their tradition of calling pitchers up from AA instead of AAA.

Badenhop (it's pronounced BAY-den-hop, FWIW, not BAD-den-hop - which would have been more interesting) was outstanding in his only start for the Mudcats. I don't think he's ready for prime time, but then again he can't be any worse than VandenHurk.

This sets up two outstanding pitching matchups:

Wednesday: Chris Volstad vs Jake McGee
Thursday: Ryan Tucker vs Wade Davis

Other stuff:

Huntsville reinstated Angel Salome from the restricted list. Salome was coming off a 50-game suspension for drug use.

Bartolo Colon has been DL'd by Pawtucket. Mike Timlin is there on rehab.

BJ Ryan is rehabbing in Dunedin. Francisco Liriano made one rehab start in Fort Myers, then went up to Rochester.

I was drafting for a friend of mine in a keeper league a few days ago. After each team has filled its active rosters, they had an ultradraft in which you could draft anybody in the world and you can keep them for however many dollars. I was looking at the keepers for this portion and somebody had drafted Terumasa Matsuo. I was stunned. It was impressive that this guy knew the player, but is also a little silly to draft him.

For players in keeper leagues with this type of setup, who was the most bizarre or most unlikely keeper that you have seen. Which keeper was the biggest steal that you have seen?

----

Timlin pitched an inning last night. 18 pitches, 12 strikes. 1K and two singles.

Happy opening day from KC where I am giddy from last night's hoops game. Who was the scheduling genius that scheduled opening day in KC today? Its supposed to rain all day, and instead of the usual day off after opening day for a rainout, we had Monday off and play Opening Day on Tuesday. Oh, and the Yankees had a late night game at home last night, and now have to travel here for a day game. WTF?

It wasn't a keeper, but one guy in our league had run out of money in our auction league and drafted Matt Chico last spring for $1. He actually performed decently, and Matt Chico kinda became a running joke in our league.

It's being reported that Rich Harden's next start is being pushed back to Saturday.

And so it begins.

A very, very optimistic Met fan drafted Fernando Martinez last season. You're only allowed 4 seasons with guys in our league, so we figured that if everything went to plan, he'd maybe have F-Mart for his rookie season.

On the other hand, the same people took Russell Martin for a dollar a couple of years back, so they're looking clever now.

Has there been any report of a specific reason yet?

According to a japanball.com story, Matsuo was playing for this team. If anyone knows what the heck an "Olive Guyner" is, please let me know.

Ah, there is Salome.

A couple of trivia questions from an Opening Day in Boston newscast.

Which team has the longest current World Series games winning streak?

Which Red Sox player on both WS winners played for another team in between World Series?

Mirabelli.

Reds? I think they've won 9 straight - spread over 15 years with their last win 18 years ago now.

Both correct.

In the FSL, 21 up, 21 down so far for Tampa's Eric Hacker.
   22. Mike Emeigh Posted: April 08, 2008 at 09:43 PM (#2735877)
Hacker was lifted after 7 (pitch count) and reliever Sean Henn, rehabbing, promptly gave up singles to Brian Dopirak and Paul Franko. Henn escaped unscathed, however, and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. Game's in extras, still scoreless. Travis Snider was 0-3 with 2Ks against Hacker.

Matsuo was drafted in our league. Matsuzaka was drafted in 2005. Fukudome was drafted in 2006.
   25. Der Komminsk-sar Posted: April 08, 2008 at 10:21 PM (#2735917)
Yeah, but those other two were guys who were very likely to come over and succeed. Matsuo ... not so much. Did anybody draft Darryl Brinkley too?
