Rangers acquire second baseman Cristian Guzman from the Nationals

TCU.

The Rangers are stockpiling infielders. A day after acquiring first/third baseman Jorge Cantu from the Marlins, they went out and got second baseman Cristian Guzman from the Nationals for prospects.

Guzman will fill-in immediately for the Rangers with Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list.

Guzman, an 11-year veteran who can also play shortstop, is hitting .282 with a .327 on-base percentage and a .361 slugging percentage in 89 games.

Guzman was also the last player from the original Nationals opening day roster in 2005.

Not sure for who yet. Some Nats optimists are hoping it's Martin Perez and Tanner Scheppers, which if true would be a heist for Rizzo.

For a team that's bankrupt, the Rangers sure are acquiring a lot of players.

That's understating it. It would cause Rangers fans to commit suicide, regardless of the team's current record.

To the good fans of the Metroplex: Please wait until actually winning a postseason series to commit such an act.

Don't worry, if they ask for money they'll just be told to go hit up ARod.

Guzman is still in the ML? It used to be that if you flunked out of Minnesota, you'd flunked out. I guess times have changed.

I guess being bankrupt means something different for a MLB team than most people/businesses.

Man, the Nats are getting some good hauls for mediocre players, especially given how little the D-backs got for Haren. Bad news for the NL East in 5 years...?

What do you think the Commissioner's slush fund is used for? Haircuts for Bud?

I always assumed it was used for hookers and blow.

Ryan Tatusko is one of the players involved in the deal.
   12. TerpNats Posted: July 30, 2010 at 07:31 PM (#3604050)
Tatusko is a pitcher; any other info on him, or who the others involved might be?

The Nats are dumping every non-rebuilding player. I have to assume Dunn will be a White Sox and Willingham a Brave soon.

Have you seen prospects released on this trade? Surely you don't believe the nonsense in #1 that the Rangers are giving up their 2 best prospects for a guy that is basically only going to start for the next 2 weeks.
   15. TerpNats Posted: July 30, 2010 at 08:05 PM (#3604091)
The good news: Ryan Tatusko is 9-2 at AA Frisco, with 2.37 ERA. The bad news: Only 5.2 K per inning, 25 years old, coming back from Tommy John. A roll of the dice by Rizzo.

The Rangers aren't in liquidation. Courts want the business to be viable so seeing this transaction is not surprising

If this were a typical business Chapter 11 valuable employees are often given retention bonuses. Again, need the talent there for when bankruptcy ends

ESPN says Evan Reed and Omar Pomeda.

RotoWorld: Tatusko and Tanner...no, not Scheppers, but Roark.

Evan Reed and Omar Pomeda

Reed and Poveda* were traded for Jorge Cantu. Apparently the Guzman deal is Tatusko and Roark.

"Optimists" is a very optimistic word for said fans.

Sure, just ask Todd Walker. Or David Ortiz. Or Doug Mientkiewicz.

Apparently the Guzman deal is Tatusko and Roark.

This raises the possibility that Rizzo is a huge "Fantasy Island" fan.

If 5.2 K per inning is bad, I'd love to see what a good K rate is!

:)
