Rays infielder Willy Aybar in jail in Dominican Republic

From…and all they will call you is ESPNdeportes.

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Willy Aybar is in custody in his native Dominican Republic for domestic violence charges, according to a local prosecutor.

Aybar, 24, has been held without bail since Thursday for allegedly assaulting his wife in BanĂ, about 25 miles south of Santo Domingo.

“Aybar is in jail since last week, and he could spend at least three more months in jail if he is convicted of domestic violence,” said Jesus Fernandez Velez, the appeals court prosecutor in charge.

Thanks to 6-4-2.

Since someone's going to say it, "FREE WILLY!"

Now if Arlen Specter can't get those hearings into Belichick's illegal videotaping, maybe he'll have time to lead a special senate delegation to the DR to free Aybar? As Florida will be crucial to McCain, it's the least he can do to help swing the vote by winning over the 2000 D-Ray fans. It's the least he could do, after working so hard to make sure that no one in the State of Pennsylvania with an IQ above room temperature ever votes GOP again.

Yeah, I'd rather have Jeff "189.00" Ridgway than this guy.

Have any baseball players ever been denied re-entry to the US on basis of arrests or convictions in their native countries? Seems like this plus his addicition problems last year would be possible grounds for his being denied a visa.

I think it should make him a Hall of Famer - Dukes and now Aybar probably instill more actual fear than Jim Rice ever did.

Pretty sure Urbina hasn't made it back yet.
