Rays making 5,000-plus upper-deck seats available

The nosebleed seats in the upper deck of Tropicana Field will no longer be draped in blue when the Tampa Bay Rays come back home—whether that’s for Game 6 of the American League Championship Series or Game 1 of the World Series.

With demand for Rays tickets now running high, the team has decided to remove the tarp that covered the highest upper-deck seats all season, freeing room for another 5,762 paying customers. Tickets were slated to go on sale Wednesday to fans who won the chance to buy them in a postseason ticket lottery. Any tickets left over will go on sale Thursday morning on the team’s Web site.

I need 5,762 more cowbells!

But how will this affect demand for the other seats?

But how will this affect demand for the other seats?

Considering games 1 and 2 of the ALCS were sold out within minutes, I doubt it will have any affect other than extra revenue for the team.

Given the incredible promise this young Rays team has, it will be very interesting indeed to see how their attendance is impacted next year and beyond.

If the best way to attract a solid and loyal fan base in baseball is really to build a winning team, then we're going to have a good test case for that in Tampa next season.

I should have added to my question:

LEWIS WOLFF and BILLY BEANE: But how will this affect demand for the other seats?

I'm sticking by my opinion that the A's idea of closing off the upper deck to increase demand for the lower decks ranks amongst the most clueless ideas ever.

Bad timing on this....with all the Red Sox fans jumping off the bandwagon those seats won't get picked up at all.
