Six degrees of Bobby Valentine and Larry Lucchino... The Boston Red Sox will hold a press conference, Weds. at 11:00 a.m. ET to announce that the club has entered into a strategic alliance with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Nippon Professional Baseball in the areas of scouting and baseball development in Japan and the Pacific Rim .
Participating in the press conference will be Red Sox President/CEO Larry Lucchino, Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein, and Vice President/International Scouting Craig Shipley, who will be on speaker phone.

Thanks? I was asking about the specific nature of the relationship, since "strategic alliance" is pretty vague. Good summary, though!
Wasn't it already heading in that direction? It seems to be similar to the PCL before WWII, with additional restrictions on movement.
Based on what they said at the press conference, no to #8, and maybe to #9. It's more of an educational alliance. If so, I think it's not a bad team to ally with; I think Bobby V. could help with that... as long as he doesn't try to enlighten Sox management via press conferences and such.
