CNBC has knocked down the list for mistakes.
I see your point, MCoA, and to some extent I agree. Pettitte happens to be one of my favorites, and the fact that he may have done steroids disappoints me. But then again, we're just talking about the Mitchell list, not a failed test or suspension, which to me is the big difference. All the Mitchell report does is give us more reason to suspect steroid use, it doesn't confirm anything.
Man, you had one rough ride. I hope to god that pool has a lot of chlorine in it.
I know exactly where you are coming from. There are a number of players who if they appear in the report with compelling evidence, it will really bother me. Surprisingly (to me), many of them aren't Yankees. Off the top of my head, Ortiz and Pedro, Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Posada, Maddux, Mariano, Brian Roberts, Youkilis, A. Soriano, Dontrelle Willis, Frank Thomas, Jeter, Bernie. Players I really like and appreciate.
plus, his mother would never let him hear the end of it.
Dude, I'd wait until you see something more official than a list floating around the internet before revelling in schadenfreude.
So will George Mitchell. And who wants to be sad this time of year?
I would have thought so too ... but there's Scott Schoenweiss
all I can say is, Brad Ausmus and Casey Fossum might have some very disappointed mothers by the end of the day
EDIT: damn, you got the Jewish mother joke out before me. Good show.
1) Roger Clemens
2) Jeff Kent
3) David Ortiz
Top three players I would be surprised to see named:
1) Greg Maddux
2) David Wells
3) John Kruk
Top three players I would be disappointed to see named:
1) Greg Maddux
2) Ken Griffey Jr.
3) Mike Sweeney
I thought these PEDs were supposed to make your head bigger, not uglier.
aw crap, I've been wrong all this time! My apologies to Casey and the entire Fossum family. You're gentiles, I guess ... not that there's anything wrong with that
I'm sure 'The Blade' wouldn't take offense
Yea...shock me again.
I am crazy, but, of course you're right. I wonder why my jackassery is always being impugned, though? I can't wait for 2008 when I'll be above the law.
even if, as kruk stated, a clubbie helps get groupies for the players, that's totally worth it!

I don't know, if a player knowingly traps the ball after a short hop on a diving outfield "catch", aren't fans more likely to say "What a veteran play!" as opposed to "He deserves a 10 game suspension for cheating!"
I thought these PEDs were supposed to make your head bigger, not uglier.
I didn't know it had the additional side effect of lengthening one's neck.
No. I think the only way he gets Pujols there is if gravity is on steroids.

Bummer, I like Roberts and I liked Justice. Justice' analysis on YES does suck though.
You leave Eddie Murray, my childhood hero, out of this! Actually, I agree with your general point, though. If all the greatest players of this era juiced and there are already one or more juicers in the Hall of Fame, then can we really exclude all juicers from the Hall of Fame?
well Boone, Clemens, Sheffield, Hereida, are all Former yankess, not active. and the rumored list has tavarez and 'tek among actives (and plenty of former Sox) so youre scenario might be unlikely
i blame the reverse-vampires
we're through the looking-glass, people!
Johnny: [Stuttering, smiling goofily, swinging bat] And Remember kids… only an idiot would do steroids. And make millions and millions of dollars. Uh… maybe we should… uh… change that?
Perhaps it's been posted, but Howard Bryant's espn article on the flaws of the investigation are revealing.
This explains the breakup with Halle Berry.
(I kid, David, I kid!)
Announcer #1: And here come the pretzels!
Marge: Oh, no! No, don’t do that! You’re suppose to be tasting them!
Announcer #2: Hall of Famer Whitey Ford now on the field pleading with the crowd for… for some kind of sanity.
Announcer #1: Uh-oh, and a barrage of pretzels now knocking Whitey unconscious.
Announcer #2: Wow. This is uh… This is a black day for baseball.
While that's definitely a possibility, it's not one that I think is particularly likely. It's really unfortunate, but if that happens I'm going to assume it's because of Mitchell's connection, and not because the Red Sox went after different players than every other AL East team.
BTW, I don't have a horse in this race. I'm a fan of an NL Central team.

"Big Red Machine" sounds like a phrase right out of the Communist Manifesto.
We can just as easily assume Mitchell was covering their asses.
this stuff is confusing enough without all your damn drug slang !

Don't take this personally, but...get a life.
They're freakin' pro athletes. Look up to them as great at what they do, but they're in no way "heroes".
You know what saddens me? The vast majority of those in the country think good health is a privledge, not a right. We celebrate the accumulation of wealth, instead of the well being of all. We think "globalization" is bringing our standard of living down to the rest of the world's, instead of bringing theirs up to ours. Half of the population thinks it's OK to kill an unborn baby but not a criminal, while the other half think it's OK to kill a criminal but not an unborn baby - while all will invoke the Commandment to "not kill".
My 55 year old sister, and 48 year old sister in law, are both dying of cancer - that saddens me, especially as I realize that this Christmas will likely be the last time we're all together. But whether athletes, whose income is based solely on performance, do something to increase that performance? How can you even care?
I'm not saying that's my viewpoint, just that it's silly to say that we can assume anything from this report about a given team. (Which is probably what I should have said to begin with, but oh well.)
In general, I like Howard but he gets a little out of control sometimes.
Can't be any worse than here. The steroid apologists are at the same time:
(1) bashing the report for naming names and for not naming enough names;
(2) For blaming MLB and for not being forward looking enough
Heck, they haven't even read it yet. Its just like the LASIK nonsense-- they are throwing all kinds of sh1t out there and hoping something sticks.
you have no emotional investment in baseball?
Happy Holidays to you too, Kevin. I hope all is well with you and the family.
Since the Mets batboy is the main source of information in this scandal, are you sure you want to do that?
If he'd hooked up more of our players, maybe we would have played better.
#### DUSTIN PEDROIA CHASE UTLEY FOR 2B
That's too bad about your sick family members, I hope they beat their respective illnesses.
I love baseball. I grew up in a big family of sports fanatics; my dad instilled his love of baseball and football in us at an early age.
But I've always wondered why people worship athletes the way they do. Yea, it'd be cool to be Tiger Woods with his millions of dollars and hot beyond belief wife, but I can't idolize him. He's just a guy who plays a sport - he doing zero to change the world in any important way.
And if the last line of #169 isn't clear enough, I've posted here many times that I expect that every pro athlete takes every advantage he can that he doesn't think he'll get caught at; there's just too much riding on their individual performance. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Mitchell's report said every player was using, every exec knew it, but since everyone profited from it no one cared (actually, I expect the owners will be exonerated, given that they're paying Mitchell (and he's one of them), but you get my drift).

Because I like them.
Make that 70% of the Yankees' innings in the 2000 World Series.
(actually, i'd leap at the chance, probably, and then hate my life while working off school debt)
Mitchell Report
Brian Roberts is an infielder who has played for the Baltimore Orioles since 2001.
He has been selected to two All-Star teams.
Roberts and Larry Bigbie were both rookies in 2001. According to Bigbie, both
he and Roberts lived in Segui’s house in the Baltimore area during the latter part of that season.
When Bigbie and Segui used steroids in the house, Roberts did not participate.
According to Bigbie, however, in 2004 Roberts admitted to him that he had
injected himself once or twice with steroids in 2003. Until this admission, Bigbie had never
suspected Roberts of using steroids.
In order to provide Roberts with information about these allegations and to give
him an opportunity to respond, I asked him to meet with me; he declined."
In 2003, Adam Piatt’s locker was located next to Tejada’s in the Oakland
Athletics clubhouse. According to Piatt, Tejada asked specifically if he had any steroids. Piatt
believed that Tejada asked him because Piatt was in good shape and generally friendly with him.
Piatt had several conversations with Tejada before a transaction occurred. Piatt
admitted he had access to steroids and human growth hormone and agreed to obtain them for
Tejada. Piatt recalled that he provided Tejada with testosterone or Deca-Durabolin, as well as
human growth hormone. Piatt emphasized that he did not know whether Tejada actually used
the substances.
Piatt’s bank provided two checks deposited into Piatt’s account that had been
written to him from Miguel Tejada. The checks are dated March 21, 2003 and are in the
amounts of $3,100 and $3,200 respectively. Both are included in the Appendix; one is shown
below.
The specifics in my post may be a bit overboard; however if you really beleive sports can be "igonred or completely dismissed" how can you be sad (and a number of posters noted specific players' outings would make them sad) if some cheated?
The radio did say Clemens. I am amused.
During the 1998 season (around the time of the injections), Clemens showed
McNamee a white bottle of Anadrol-50.386 Clemens told McNamee he was not using it but
wanted to know more about it. McNamee told Clemens not to use it. McNamee said he took the bottle and gave it to Canseco.387 McNamee does not know where Clemens obtained the
Anadrol-50.
According to McNamee, from the time that McNamee injected Clemens with
Winstrol through the end of the 1998 season, Clemens’s performance showed remarkable
improvement. During this period of improved performance, Clemens told McNamee that the
steroids “had a pretty good effect” on him. McNamee said that Clemens also was training harder
and dieting better during this time.
According to McNamee, Clemens advised him in August 2001 that he was again
ready to use steroids. Shortly thereafter, McNamee injected Clemens with Sustanon or Deca-
Durabolin on four to five occasions at Clemens’s apartment. According to McNamee, he again
obtained these drugs from Kirk Radomski. McNamee concluded from Clemens’s statements and
conduct that Clemens did not like using human growth hormone (Clemens told him that he did
not like the “bellybutton shot”). To McNamee’s knowledge, Clemens did not use human growth
hormone in 2001.
(Yeah Cust is a shocker. Oh well.)
- Sosa not mentioned except in a non-incriminatory passing way.
- Neither Prior nor Wood is mentioned.
Babe Ruth saved the game from the Black Sox scandal
Ripken, then McGwire and Sosa (ha ha) saved the game after the strike.
Who will be the new savior? Where will turn to for that huge feel good story baseball is going to need?
Answer: When Barry Bonds, after getting his 3,000th hit in an A's uniform, is acquitted on all charges later this year, the world will rejoice at the triumph of impartial justice.
