DENVER—The Rockies are playing their best baseball of the year, and it might be just in time to save their season.
Colorado jumped out early against the Dodgers and held on for a 5-3 win on an overcast Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field. The victory capped a 6-1 homestand and moved the Rockies within 6 1/2 games of the National League West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks.
If the Cubs can beat the Diamondbacks tonight, that will mean two things: The Rockies will be within six games of first place, and they will have a total of four games left against teams that have winning records. Four.

One reason is Ubaldo Jimenez, who has a 3.42 ERA over his last 17 starts, and a 2.28 ERA in his last nine starts. Between him, Cook, and hopefully Jeff Francis, who is due back next week, we've got the makings of a quality starting rotation.
I predict this number will be a lot higher than four after those teams finish playing the Rocks...
"Look! We have no games left against teams with winning records!"
