Me too, though I didn't figure it out until I wondered for a moment if I'd missed some news about the Yankees' financial difficulties.
Then I ran into my own post and kind of figured it out.
I was surprised that Rosenthal seems to imply the Tigers are still plugging along for 2008, I was under the impression that with 2/5th of their (theoritical) starting rotation either hurt or in single-A they would have given up the ghost by now.
Also, that was like, last year, man.
*OCD SS looks around wildly, picks up his keyboard and peers underneath it* "But, I didn't say that!"
"Oh, wait."
Teehee.
(EDIT) Kevin must have posted in this thread, also.
Such different paths these two players made.
If the Dodgers are patient, Kemp might prove more productive than Bay, Ordonez or even Holliday. But this is a team that has won only one postseason game in the past 20 years. Colletti needs to win. Manager Joe Torre wants to win. And Matt Kemp is one powerful chip.
Comparing current 2009 WAR:
Matt Kemp: 3.4
Jason Bay: 1.9
Matt Holliday: 1.8
Magglio Ordonez: 0.0
I like how "in the long run" Kemp may outperform a list of guys. Long run, of course, being 2009 (arguably end of 2008).
Matt Kemp is 2nd among center fielders in UZR at 9.1
Jason Bay is at -7.6 in left field
Kemp is a very strange player to me. I only see him against the Angels, but this past weekend was the first time I've seen him do more than one good thing in a three-game series. When I usually see him, he demonstrates no ability to consistently get hits off of breaking balls, is clumsy defensively, and just seems to do nothing. Yet his statistics are very good. I guess I must just see him in his poorest games.
Gary Sheffield, goodbye and good luck!
edit: Not top 3, but I can see Kemp picking up some down ballot votes, with some 4th, and 5th votes.
Now that's a great challenge trade where both teams would come out ahead.
Even Walt can be wrong.
He reminds me of a right-handed Clint Hurdle. He has that big frame but good speed and sporadic hitting the ball 450 feet.
It didn't really work until this part, because Kemp really is nowhere near MAys or Mantle (whereas Greinke is quite a bit closer to the guys that Rices says he isn't)
BTW Clint Hurdle = Hermida
(Ok, sorry, that was actually a serious observation- look at their minor league numbers...)
