Rosenthal: Firing Bavasi was good first step for M’s

Robothal biped chargers. For a limited time only!

Perhaps New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman and San Diego Padres GM Kevin Towers will prove frustrated enough in their current positions to pursue the M’s opening.

Or, perhaps the Mariners will hire a less experienced executive such as Oakland A’s assistant GM David Forst or Arizona Diamondbacks director of player personnel Jerry Dipoto as they start over.

The job shouldn’t be so difficult; the M’s offer a great ballpark, ample payroll and little ownership interference. What they need is an organization-wide wakeup call, from Lincoln on down.

The firing of Bavasi is a start.

Why would Towers want to leave?

Because the Padres are Fawlty?

First I have heard of it. I will say, everything the man does is cleared through Alderson first, and it wasn't always like that obviously.

Of course the friars have DePodesta playing the role of scout right now too. He has to be considered a possibility for the Seattle gig too.

I have a hard time believing the Seattle ownership would want to deal with a figure as controversial as DePodesta taking over.

Is Ned Colletti looking for a parachute yet? :-)

Wasn't DePodesta a finalist for the M's job, along with Bavasi?

I don't know, but i would hate to see the friars lose him. His blog is great!

how about Kevin Towers for Ichiro. It fills needs in both organizations. The Padres have a surplus of GM's and need a center fielder.

its a win win.

They just keep throwing this out there about Cashman, but it's not really based in reality.
