I was trying to think of players, that were superstars, and were among the very best players from the day they walked on the field. Pujols was one. Frank Thomas, I think. Going way back, Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio fit the bill.
Most others I could think of were merely good for their first season (Mantle, Mays, Aaron, etc), or had a cup of coffee in the majors where they weren't spectacular from day one (ARod).
Frank Robinson - another Reds outfielder.
Tom Seaver put up a 122 ERA+, got MVP votes, and appeared in the All-Star Game in his first season. He's probably not quite good enough to make the cut here though.
Recent: possibly Eddie Murray & Jeff Bagwell
Way back: Hank Greenberg, Arky Vaughan, Lloyd Waner
Wade Boggs & Chuck Klein put up excellent #'s in about 1/2 season
BTW, how did Kaline get MVP vote(s) when he was 19, with a 276/305/347 line, for an 80 OPS+?
