Scott: Paul Lo Duca: Three Sides to Every Story

Paul Lo Duca! Don Henley! As my old friend “Eyepatch” McQuiff used to say…“Have you reached your douche quota yet?”

There’s sex. There’s money. There’s fame. And don’t forget, it all took place in New York. If this were Kansas City or Tampa, it would’ve been a story in the Notes section of the paper. He would’ve been hammered on Deadspin and other places on the ‘net, but the amount of mainstream publicity this story got - all while the Mets were storming to a first-place finish in the NL East - can be partially blamed on the personality of New York City itself.

So what’s the truth about Lo Duca? He’s been sued, divorced, charged and, at least in ‘06, had the chance to defend himself. In ‘06, there were three stories (the wife, the “teen,” and the gambling) and three sides to each. In ‘09, there’s a new story and one side given out. It’s very possible, until we know more, that we’re missing two sides here. Lo Duca’s and the “cold hard truth.”

...We’re a society that loves to rush to judgment; we’re the children of the very culture we created. Clemens/McNamee, players vs. management, LaRussa vs. Rolen… Even outside of baseball with politics and the healthcare debate - we love to take sides and believe ours is the right one. But if we can keep our emotions in check and listen, we may be able to grasp a bigger picture. Because between my side and yours, there’s always a little something in between.

We don't know anything about Lo Duca, other than he sucked, everyone who met him thought he was a jerk, and he was the PED dealer in the Dodger's club house. So I'm sure that he must be innocent of these new charges.

Always? Sometimes, but certainly not always.
