Seattle Times: Endy Chavez done for year with torn ACL.

Just got the official word on Endy Chavez, who has a torn anterior cruciate ligament—which explains the thigh-to-ankle cast we mentioned earlier—and other internal damage that effectively finishes off his 2009 season. Chavez also apparently damaged other ligaments in the knee and may have fractured a bone as well, but the ACL is the primary concern.

The all-glove-love outfield goes the way of the dodo.

A true blow to the team's sterling OBP.

Yuni should be DFA on principal.

Shoot. Even though I still like the trade, it's hard not to root for Endy.

It does seem like this might be the final straw for Mr. Betancourt, doesn't it?

How was this Betancourts fault?

Betancourt caught the ball on the play and was not injured. Chavez took the brunt of the collision on his knee, and may have worsened the damage when Betancourt rolled back onto it.

I think I speak for all Mariners fans everywhere when I say that I hate everything about Yuniesky Betancourt.

A few years after Endy Chavez retires, the only thing most people are going to remember about Endy is The Catch and I think that's a little ironic because the main reason I enjoyed watching Endy play is that he made playing defense look so easy. I hope he wins a Gold Glove some day because he deserves that recognition.

It's not ironic, it's absolutely appropriate. Endy is not and has never been a very good baseball player. But he is an extraordinary fielder - if he could hit .280/25/90 he would have won half a dozen golden gloves.
