SFGate: Giants sign Freddy Sanchez; Lowry to become free agent

The contract is worth $6 million a year, $12 million total. So he is taking a $2.1 million pay cut for 2010 in return for $6 million in 2011.

Fair trade.

Probably 8 million more he would have gotten from another team.

Are the Giants in trouble with MLB or does Freddy Sanchez not count as a "major signing"?

This is a man who will not be drafted in the BTF League.

Is Lowry worth kicking the tires on (if you're the Red Sox)? I know he's been hurt but they seem to love reclaiming hurt pitchers up there... Would he at least be better than Brad Penny if healthy?

Very nice deal for the Giants. This is a good 2-win+ player who's also quite versatile.

That is a man who has already been drafted in the BTF League.

Who do you guys have as the most un-draftable player?

I think it's Soriano.

Him, or Carlos Lee. I'd put Zambrano and Young just behind them.

Of course, I also thought that no one would touch the A-Rod and Teixeira contracts, but those both went without too much fuss.

Bochy got fingered.

The first email the team sent out announcing the deal contained a photo of Jonathan Sanchez. The caption even referred to Jonathan, "Jonathan Sanchez struck out three and walked four in 5 1/3 innings."

I think it's Soriano or Wells. At least Lee and Young can hit and Zambrano can pitch. Soriano, on the other hand, was barely above replacement last year and has four more years on his contract.

Cot's has five years left on Soriano's contract at $18M/per (plus $300K for an MVP!). I keep trying to 'splain to my father-in-law that the problem in the Cubs' outfield isn't named Bradley. . .

Is this a strat league, fantasy league, or what that's being discussed? How do the contracts play into it?

I'd guess Zambrano goes before Barry Zito.

DMB league. Salary cap is based on the average salary for all teams, and all players are signed based on their actual contracts.

I refuse to acknowledge the Wells contract. In my world, it never happened, and doesn't exist.

20 team league, $92M salary cap.

I'm surprised no one's taken Toriiiii Hunter yet. He was almost worth his contract this year, and there's still a ton of $$$ floating around.
