Let’s see: Livan was Plan A, Figueroa Plan B and Garcia Plan C ... just six more journeymen until Plan J!
Garcia went 0-2 with an 8.18 ERA, and allowed seven earned runs and seven hits in five innings against Syracuse on Monday night.
He had surgery on his right shoulder in August 2007 and made only 14 starts the previous two seasons with Philadelphia and Detroit, going 2-6 with a 5.55 ERA. The 33-year-old right-hander would have gotten a $1.5 million, one-year deal if added to the Mets’ 40-man roster.

Paging Anna Benson...
Rats.
Not that the night after Penny blows up is the best time to be bragging about pitching depth, but the Red Sox really need to trade a starter before the end of the year.
The Red Sox have rotation spots committed to Beckett, Lester, Daisuke & Wakefield. They have Smoltz coming back in six weeks or so. Then they have Masterson, Buchholz, and Bowden in various stages of readiness, and Tazawa possibly viable as well.
I know, you should never trade pitching, or however that old saw goes, but there's something like nine guys there, plus Penny. I think trading one of Masterson/Buchholz/Bowden would be a pretty good idea if they can get an equivalent position prospect from someone like the Mets...
Or they could trade Penny for a bag of balls.
