Sickels: Philadelphia Phillies Top 20 Prospects for 2008

Holdzkom, Savery and Outman are here...unfortunately, McQualitystart is not.

1 - Carlos Carrasco, RHP, Grade B
2 - Adrian Cardenas, 2B, Grade B
3 - Josh Outman, LHP, Grade B
4 - Joe Savery, LHP, Grade B (I still worry about his health)
5 - Kyle Drabek, RHP, Grade C+ (injuries, command, and personality are huge questions)
6 - Jason Donald, SS, Grade C+ (big time sleeper)
7 - Greg Golson, OF, Grade C+ (tools out the wazoo but no polish)
8 - Travis Blackley, LHP, Grade C+
9 - J.A. Happ, LHP, Grade C+ (interchangeable with Blackley)
10 - Lou Marson, C, Grade C+

The Phillies have an interesting mix. They have some polished guys without great tools, and they have some tools guys with no skills, but not many with both.

Travis Blackley appearing at #8 on your top prospects list is a pretty ominous sign, isn't it? He's now 25, his K rate has been plummeting since leaving A ball, and he's stunk up AAA since shoulder surgery wiped out his '05 season.

I thought that Adrian Cardenas was supposed to be a good SS -- I see that he's moved to 2B. It's a shame that their 2 best position prospects and SS and 2B -- those positions are locked down for a few years.
From a name standpoint, you have to like Josh Outman as a pitcher. Joe Savery should close and how can you not root for Antonio Bastardo to become a legitimate major leaguer?
