Singer: Greinke shy on wins, but could have resume to top CC, others

Lead…Singer. Mofobaugh!

Here’s our take on all this: Wins are totally out of a pitcher’s control. Without supporting offense early and relief late, he is toast.

What do we mean? Giants right-hander Matt Cain—for a random example—twice got no-decisions despite hurling shutout ball. How can you do better than that? Five other times, he allowed one run and didn’t win.

Greinke also fired blanks twice without getting the win, and twice lost for allowing one run. Overall, in nine no-decision starts in which he averaged seven innings, he had an ERA of 2.35—in itself low enough to lead the league.

The only thing over which a pitcher has full control is the number of baserunners he allows, his so-called WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched).

WHIP it, WHIP it good (with thanks to Devo): Greinke was low-man in the AL at 0.96, which was 32 percent below the average for the DH league.

Felix Hernandez will be edified to know that his existence was acknowledged, if not specifically, in this headline.

If the voters don't choose Grienke because he was three wins short of Sabathia, when he pitched for a team that won 38 fewer games, they should all be taken to spring training and forced to stand in the batter's box and allow Zach to re-enact Matt Cain's pitch to David Wright's head. Each and every stupid one of them.

He "could" have the resume to top C.C.? Good grief.

I'd be stunned if Greinke doesn't win. The margin won't be as large as Mauer's, but he'll take the trophy.

Sure, there's Devo and Wes Anderson, but for me, Mothersbaugh is all about Yo Gabba Gabba. Hi, I'm Mark and today we're gonna draw a potato bug!

In a just world, Sabathia finishes no higher than third. Also maybe in this world.

Are M's fans crapping their pants yet that King Felix is only two years away from FA?

The M's aren't broke. They're just dumb. Or they were. It's hard for me to imagine a scenario in which Hernandez is allowed to walk.

If they don't compete this year and Felix gets sick of losing, he could decide not to sign an extension.

Shuuuuut it.

Greinke shy on love, but could have resume that to top CC, others.

Not being broke or dumb doesn't mean that they can match the $25 million a year that the Red Sox and Yankees are sure to offer.

Good bonding experience!
In a rock world that was dominated at the time by Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles and Genesis, how could I not fall for a group who extolled the virtues of a Mongoloid? "Mon-go-loid, he was a Mon-go-loid, one chro-mo-some too man-eee.

Well, not being dumb or broke means they should pony up a 8/160 offer now, and prevent it from ever reaching that point.

Mongoloid live on French television in 1978. Enjoy.

By the way, for you New Yorksters out there, Devo is playing this Friday and Saturday at Irving Plaza. Friday's show will center around the "Are We Not Men?" album; Saturday's, "Freedom of Choice". The bad news? Tickets are $60.

That seems like a big risk.

That is not a random example. And one of the two no-decisions from Cain was a start in which he failed to last 2 innings.

No.

Nice catch. That's some piss poor research, at best.

That seems like a big risk.

That's the cost of having elite players. This guy can be a 6 or 7 WAR pitcher year in and year out. Felix alone can make an average team a borderline pennant contender.

To get that much value, at a reasonable cost (really elite players are actually pretty cheap on a per win basis)
you've got to take the risk.

I, personally, am already assuming that the 2013 Yankees starting rotation will be a face-melting medley of Greinke, Hernandez, Halladay, Sabathia, and Pettitte.
