Slusser: Fans enjoying Coliseum ‘Moneyball’ shoot

Jason Windsor!!!???

While the A’s were battling with the Rangers and with the heat in Texas, fans at the Coliseum were enjoying Scott Hatteberg’s homer to extend Oakland’s winning streak to a record 20 games.

In 2002.

The “Moneyball” movie began filming the Hatteberg sequence on Wednesday night, according to A’s batboy Jordan Iserson, who is playing a batboy in the movie.

“It was a blast,” Iserson said by phone on Thursday. “Almost as good as the real thing.”

But actor Chris Pratt, playing Hatteberg, didn’t exactly have the same result in his at-bat that Hatteberg did when his pinch-hit homer beat the Royals 12-11 in the bottom of the ninth on Sept. 4, 2002. The A’s blew an 11-0 lead but managed to set the record for the longest American League winning streak, which still stands….

Former Giant Royce Clayton is playing Miguel Tejada, and onetime Oakland pitcher Jason Windsor is playing John Mabry, Iserson said. He said the former minor-leaguers playing Barry Zito and Tim Hudson look especially like the real thing.

That's not really acting, you know...

If there isn't a scene w/ Tejada hitting up a Taco Bell drive-thru, I'll be very disappointed.

I dunno, I imagine it's difficult portraying one's self.

I just don't understand Jonah Hill playing DePo.

If there has to be a movie shot in the coliseum, I'd rather watch one about the decline of the Raiders. The Madness of Al Davis, a Greek tragedy. Much better than insipid triumphalist office dramas.

Both of them looked older than their age throughout their careers, but Clayton is 40 now and presumably looks older than that.

Interesting though.

Look, this movie is going to suck. It's going to suck hard.

But those 00-03 teams are almost certainly the last Oakland Athletics (I hope the A's stay in the Bay Area and all, but quite frankly, I grew up in the East Bay, and San Jose doesn't mean #### to me, so it'll really never be the same) teams that will ever be really relevant to the Major League universe, and those were the teams that I, as a young teen, grew up with. So I'm ####### pumped to see this disaster all the same.

Jason Windsor!!!???

I get it. He'll be portrayed as kind of the stat-geek sidekick, which Jonah Hill can play well. You guys are focusing on the physical attributes, which is silly since 99% of the general public has no idea what Paul DePodesta looks like.

I'm starting to come around on this project. If they do it as kind of an absurd, fun, almost Ocean's Eleven kinda style, it could be pretty entertaining.

Or it could hugely suck. We'll see.

Now that Steven Soderbergh is off the project, I don't have much faith in this movie.

Hell, I'm a baseball nerd and I don't know what DePodesta looks like. I'd say 99% of the general public doesn't even know who DePo is.

My guess is it won't have much to do with the book, or at least not the statistical stuff, and I'm cool with that. It could just be about nerds running a baseball team with scrubs and probably some silly love interest involved. You could make a watchable movie out of that, although most baseball movies tend to suck for whatever reason.

I don't have much confidence in this, and I hate every other baseball movie, but it could actually work if it was sort of a combination of 24 Hour Party People and The Damned United.
