SNY: Keith Hernandez dips into the e-mailbox

If a ML team is ever dopey enough to give Keith Hernandez a managerial gig...it will be the goofiest thing since eden ahbez brought his bicycle onto the We, The People stage!

What makes someone like Ryan Howard strike out so much while he still seems to hit home runs at an alarming rate?

Good question. He swings at too many bad pitches out of the strike zone, and the pitchers are too stupid to recognize this and they continue to throw him strikes.

What kind of mindset do you have when you are going up to pinch-hit?

Thou shall not pass! You have to first-ball, fastball hit in that situation.

That's maybe the most unhelpful Q & A I've ever read. And what's up with it being completely Phillies-centric?

Keith's charming on the SNY broadcasts and all but he often comes off as a real ditz.

I think only women can be ditzes. Keith is more like a yutz.

Was that a Lord of the Rings reference?

This is my favorite:
When someone says that a player has a short or long swing what does he mean?
- Ned in Huntington, N.Y.

Exactly what it says. For example, Chase Utley has a short swing, Pat Burrell has a long swing.

This is my favorite:

How hard is it to step back into the batter's box after being out with an injury?
- Stan in Manhattan

That depends on the injury.

I'm not sure what's funnier- Keith's answer or the editor's decision to post this particular Q&A;.

Keith doesn't like to do a lot of work. He's smart, funny, and is a character but he's not exactly Scully when it comes to pre-game prep. He hates rain delays and extra-inning games because he has to work more than he wants to. It's funny to me.
