Spector: Nine Innings: Gabe Kapler

Spector and another good guy (no, not B. Mitchel Reed)...Gabe Kapler.

7. What did you get out of your experience last year that you bring back as a player?

GK: Just another great baseball experience. Another angle of seeing the game. I’ve seen the game from a lot of different angles in terms of different roles on different teams. Prospect, 57th-round draft pick, seen it from those angles. A guy who’s thought of well in an organization, a guy who’s left for dead in an organization. I’ve seen it from a bench player’s perspective and a starting player’s perspective. And the managerial goggles, it’s a whole different way of seeing the game. It subconsciously adds to the baseball experience.

8. What is one thing that you have not done in your career that you’d like to accomplish?

GK: That’s a good question. It’s a specifically good question because it’s something I think of all the time. Right now, I feel like I’m pretty thankful and at peace with what I’ve accomplished, and everything else is icing.

What a hunk. Oh, yeah, and someone who truly appreciates how fortunate he is to boot.

Kapler has been slowed the last week or so with a banged up shoulder.

He ran full-tilt into a wall and hurt his shoulder.

In batting practice.

EDIT: He also came off the bench today, and ended up winning the game in extra innings with an RBI single, too.

Good timing on this article, putting it up less than an hour before Kapler's game-winning hit.

Was this the first time in MLB history a Gabe drove in a Gabe to win the game?

if it didn't happen previously this year, only instance I can find that may work is Gabe Kapler driving in Gabe Alvarez(or reverse) in 1998/1999

4. What is your favorite road city?

GK: Probably, I’d say it would be a tie between San Francisco and New York.

TB: Are they similar, or do you like them for different reasons?

GK: They’re very different. There’s some similarities in overall interesting culture and diversity, languages being spoken. That’s the common thread that I love about both cities is walking down the street, hearing languages that I don’t recognize, smelling smells of food that are foreign and different, riding the subways and seeing people on public transportation, history, all those things that those cities share in common. It’s visually stimulating.

Gabe Kapler, not terribly surprisingly, is the anti-Rocker.
