Sports Justice: What’s wrong with the Astros. It’s not what you think.

Bourn is a weapon?...Uh-oh, don’t tell me Justice picked up Erlich’s “The Population Bomb.”

The more I think about it, the more I think Drayton McLane is right to push forward. Try to sign two free-agent starters in the off-season, keep the core together and don’t dare cut the budget in player development.

Now a word about Cecil Cooper. He has managed 101 games in the big leagues. He has a team that has a poor rotation and a mediocre offense. Has he distinguished him? No. But to blame him for this team’s problem is silly.

Some of you believe there’s a quick fix for everything: change the manager, change the standings. It doesn’t work that way. I don’t agree with all the small-ball stuff, but Michael Bourn is such a weapon that he’s right to take advantage of it.

I think what's wrong with the Astros is that they are run by a damn idiot. Do you disagree, Mr. Justice?

If the starters are Sabathia and Sheets, maybe it would work. Otherwise . . .

But...what about "Pence peppering Erstad with questions?"
What about "Carlos Lee's big laugh?"
What about Ed Wade's foresight in assembling a roster that had great chemistry even in the winter?

If the starters are Lefty Grove and Jesus Christ, maybe it would work. Otherwise . . .

When two trains love each other very, very much, sometimes they meet on the same track and... kiss. We grownups call that a "train wreck"...

Bourn is no Greg Golson...

Michael Bourn is such a weapon
But which way is the sharp end pointing?

Ooh, things wrong with the Astros:

1. The GM
2. The manager
3. Brad Ausmus
4. Whatever they've done to JR Towles
5. Roy Oswalt's Eric Milton impression (it's a really good one though)
6. The remainder of Carlos Lee's contract
7. Their Geoff Blum fetish
8. Having Tomas Perez, Reggie Abercrombie and David Newhan on the roster (albeit briefly) in one season
9. Their struggling but promising young rotation of Backe (30), Chacon (30), Sampson (30), and Rodriguez (29)
10. Making me wrong for thinking Brian Moehler wasn't in MLB anymore

Things right with the Astros.
1-9. Lance Berkman
10. Doug Brocail

Bourn is no Greg Golson...

And neither one is Anthony Hewitt! The way the Phillies have been drafting, I'm thinking their next first round pick will be an Olympic-level 16 yo track and field athlete who can bench press 500 pounds, but whose only exposure to baseball was one summer of Wiffle-ball in a friend's back yard.

Gillick will claim that he is "raw" but that he stayed in well against Tommy Doyle's "spinner" and put on a show, launching several balls well over the garage and into the Flannery's back yard.

As soon as Ryan Ludwick runs out of pixie dust expect similar articles out of St. Louis.

It's not what I think? So they don't suck?
