SportTicker: Padres agree to terms with RHP Tomko

The San Diego Padres and righthander Brett Tomko on Friday agreed to terms on a contract. Terms were not disclosed.

Tomko was 2-7 with a 6.97 ERA in 16 games with the Kansas City Royals this season before he was designated for assignment on June 12. The 35-year-old also pitched for the Padres in 2002 and 2007.

Bodes well for Chacon, perhaps. Unless the undisclosed terms involve some sort of "pay to pitch" arrangement.

Tomko must be one helluva charismatic guy.

Does anyone pronounce "RHP" as "RIP"?

Not so fast, Diamondbacks. Here come the Padres!

I can't believe Tomko is 35 years old.

If Tomko can still get paid to play baseball at the Major League level, and especially if someone claims/signs Shawn Chacon, I'm reviving my "Why not Todd Van Poppel?" campaign. He's only 36!

Are we sure that Petco Park's fences are far enough away for Tomko to pitch well without giving up 3 HRs per 9 innings?

Colby Lewis is lighting up Japan somehow.. bring him back to America so he can unleash 10-9 6.35 ERA years.

Does this put Randy Wolf on the market or what? Sell high Kevin.

Considering that Barry Bonds is available for about $170,000, I'm going to guess... eight hundred dollars?

Does Tomko have that kind of scratch lying around that he could pay Towers?

He's only 36!

Todd van Poppel is 36? I refuse to believe that.

On the first page of the GIS is the famous picture of Jose and Mrs. Lima. I didn't think that was going to happen.

Looks like they're making a run for the first overall draft pick.

Ms. Schultz has some really interesting tan lines. More research is required.

It may be that she knows more about such things than I might have suspected.
