Star-Telegram: Josh Hamilton wants to be Texas Rangers iron man

Very tasteful...a Robert Downey Jr. reference.

No, not solely in his early-MVP numbers but also in another stat that puts him among the league leaders. The center fielder has started all 30 of his team’s games, including Friday night against the Oakland Athletics.

As long as the Rangers need his big bat in the lineup, don’t expect to see Hamilton getting a day off. That’s fine by him, even if that means playing all 162 games this season.

“If I could do that, that’d be great,” he said. “I’m going to play until I can’t play anymore.”

...“When I tried to give him days off, he came in my office and told me he didn’t what them,” Washington said. “His day off was the day he DH’ed.

“As we get deeper into the season, I’m going to have to give him a day off. I know we’ve got to try to watch him … until I feel comfortable that I can totally take him out of the lineup.”

there was a thread on this subject before, but between the drugs, the tattoos, the religion, and this- do you think this guy has a compulsive personality or what

As long as he feels compelled to run down fly balls, I'm happy :)

To prove my ignorance, until last night I thought he was a black guy.

I gotta say, it's been a while since a young player came up who grabs your attention like Hamilton does. His talent is awesome and undeniable.

Hey, Robert Downey Jr. is clean and sober now, right? Um...

Apparently. Or, at least he's a functional user, which is for all intents and purposes the same thing. And given how sure more people were he'd be dead by now instead of starring in a big action movie, etc, etc...he's not a bad model for Hamilton or whoever.

Nice Nick Cave reference JMM

While I understand that Washington wants the absolute best lineup on the field at all times- based on the fact that he's got a pretty tenuous hold on his job- I can't help but think it's really, really foolish not to give Hamilton a blow at least once every other week. Four more seasons of cost-controlled Josh Hamilton will nicely compliment a consensus top-5 farm system. Why push it and risk getting him hurt?

Hamilton is a stud, but he's also never played in more than 101 games in a season. Seems to me the Rangers should be hedging their bets and planning on giving him 120 starts in center, plus another 25 at DH. In doing so, you keep his legs fresh and hope that he can maintain his performance through the dog days.

Ankiel and Hamilton are two of the great baseball stories of this -- or any -- generation.
