STEINBRENNER REMEMBERS MURCER IN NEW SPORTING NEWS (RR)

Steinbrenner to Michael Burke after Murcer had struck out to end a game..."There’s your ####### hundred-thousand-a-year ball player.

He’s not worth a ####!”

George Steinbrenner has gone from “The Boss” to “The Writer” in the latest issue of Sporting News magazine, with memories of late former Yankee Bobby Murcer.

Steinbrenner is among the contributing authors in a 15-page “In Memoriam” package, with sports personalities sharing thoughts about those who passed away in 2008.

On Murcer’s legacy: “When I think about Bobby, his image comes up with the other great ones, the giants of baseball. I’ve had lots of wonderful players over the years. I’d say Bobby Murcer was right up there in the top tier. He was definitely one of my superstars.”

Nice comments. I wonder who ghostwrote them for Mr. Steinbrenner.

I'm shocked he remembers anything at all.

He may have written them himself. He actually looks pretty good in this picture, taken just a few days ago with his two sons.
