STL Post-Dispatch: Edmonds is open to a trade

[Jim] Edmonds, who enjoys the right to veto any deal, said Sunday he would consider a trade if the Cardinals think it would be in the organization’s best interests.

“I’m just saying: If for whatever reason things change here and they want to move me, I’m not going to sit here and be stubborn about leaving,” Edmonds said Sunday before the Cardinals’ 6-3 loss in the series finale against the Washington Nationals. “I’m an organizational guy. I’m here for the organization. I always have been. If they wanted to do something, I’d listen.”
...
Manager Tony La Russa has contemplated moving Edmonds to right field next season, a move Edmonds has said he would not resist.

“I’m sure they’re looking to put together the best team they can. If that involves me, I’d be glad to talk,” Edmonds said. “Whatever we all decide is what happens.”
...
Edmonds said he is also interested in the organization’s long-range plan, including whether general manager Walt Jocketty and manager Tony La Russa will return next season.

No, no, no. I realize Edmonds is almost done, but I'd rather see LaJocketty run out on a rail than watch yet another beloved veteran center fielder get the brush-off in the twilight of his career.

What, you didn't like the totally and completely classy way the Cardinals treated Ray Lankford?

The Angels could use a lefty bat off the bench, and I can't imagine Edmonds would be worth all that much in terms of trade value. Probably crazy, sure, but I'd love to see Edmonds return to Anaheim -- he was my favorite player while he was here. If the Cardinals would just take Kent Bottenfield back for him, everything'll work out just right ...

Dan,

What's funny is somehow the organization got the fanbase to turn on Ray-Ray as well.

I don't mind them trading Edmonds, those things are a fact of life, but I would like to see him stay in the NL so I can cheer him.

I feel the same way about Rolen.

I liked Edmonds too. My first thought was why keep him on the bench? He's still a better player than Garret Anderson. Except then I look at his stats, and he's not. Usually you have to look beyond one bad year of less than 300 PA, consider the projection based on multiyear data. But in Edmonds' case with him being 37 and all the injuries he's suffered, this might be the best he can do.

What happened with Langford?

Edmonds looks bad at the plate, and he's owed a lot of $ isn't he?

I can't see another team taking him.

Well, he shouldn't have spent the last 5+ seasons doing all those fake dives and jumps.

I think the Cards would gladly take Bottenfield back if the Angels agree to take Kennedy back. Hell, Bottenfield would probably be the number 3 starter.

I think he should go to the Pirates. That team has money to burn and could trade somebody like Maholm to the Cards or Jack Wilson and John Von B.

Great suggestion. Jim Edmonds can provide the veteran leadership that the Pirates need for their young outfielders. They could put together a package including Nate McLouth, Brad Eldred and Andrew McCutchen if the Cardinals agree to eat 1/3 of Edmonds's contract and throw in Troy Percival or Brian Falkenborg.
