STL Post-Dispatch: Struggling Isringhausen is placed on disabled list

The Cardinals placed their deposed closer on the 15-day disabled list Friday after team medical supervisor Dr. George Paletta found enough evidence to make the roster move of least resistance. Isringhausen, who made three appearances after delivering two open-handed slams to a Miller Park television May 9, will report on Monday to the team’s minor-league headquarters in Jupiter, Fla., and begin a recovery of undetermined length.
...
“He’s not effective right now, so something’s bothering him,” general manager John Mozeliak said. “And I think medically right now that’s part of it. Are there other aspects affecting him as well? I’m sure there are. But the fact is, he’s not effective out there. We have to put guys on the mound who can be effective.”
...
The club did not reconcile using Isringhausen three times before disabling him with a “lacerated” hand.
...
Mozeliak conceded the club would have made some sort of move with Isringhausen even if unable to find a medical reason. “Something had to be done,” Mozeliak said. “This is the course that was available to us and we took it.”

The club refused to make Paletta available for reporters’ questions.

The Cards should have called the Red Sox doctors for a more creative medical diagnosis. I think Adam Stern is still taking medication for leprosy.

FRAUD!!!!

Seriously though, John Mozeliak sounds retarded, which is awesome. I'm a Cubs fan, and there's nothing better than knowing that your arch-rival's GM is a retard. Good luck sucking for the next 8-12 years punks!!!

Kidding about that taunt too, BTW. But if that guy's the GM that team will suck for as long as he's the GM.

You're basing this on his quotes above?

I find that sort of honesty rather breathtaking, actually. There isn't a team in baseball that doesn't get creative when it comes to the disabled list, but this is probably the most frankly I've seen it addressed. I'm going to go ahead and deem that as worthy of respect for right now.
