Stubby Clapp not going to Beijing

Canada’s Olympic baseball team will have to compete at the Beijing Games this summer without its most popular and scrappiest player, CBCSports.ca has learned.

Baseball Canada was informed that second baseman Stubby Clapp was denied permission to play for the Olympic team.
.....
“The Houston Astros have turned down our request for Stubby to play for us,” Hamilton told CBCSports.ca. “It’s a blow. Stubby Clapp brings leadership to the team and in many ways is the face of the program.”

Well as long as the Clapp isn't around here, I don't care where....hey I just noticed the series of words "blow. Stubby Clapp" above!

Alright, time to return to adulthood.

Clapp was in the Northern League a couple of years ago, I think he was with Calgary. Ergo I thought he was toast. Boo on the Astros for not letting him have a moment in the sun.

Too bad. Stubby was a real fan favorite with the Arkansas Travelers 6 or 7 years ago when I was going to games in Little Rock.

That's really unfortunate. From everything I've read Stubby loved playing for the national team and, as the article says, was in many ways the team's captain.

Without doubt the headline of the week.
