The Biz of Baseball: Brown: Sunday MLB on TBS: Comments from Marlins/Phillies Gm

And Maury adds..."When Buck Martinez and Chip Caray wax philosophically… or something like that.”

Caray on Citizens Bank Park being a hitters park: “I would think that this is the kind of ballpark where if you’re a hitter like (Ryan) Howard you don’t need to be (foul) pole conscious in this place.”

Martinez: “If you’re a hitter like Buck Martinez you don’t need to be foul pole conscious in this place. This is a very hitter-friendly ballpark. You don’t have to pull the ball to hit it out, anybody can hit it out anywhere.”

Martinez on whether or not hitting 500 home runs now is as relevant as it once was: “No, I don’t think (hitting 500 homeruns) is quite the plateau it was a few years ago, and certainly when you have guys like Frank Robinson and Willie Mays and those types of guys getting passed it loses some of its significance. Ballparks are smaller (now), no matter what you think about the steroid era and all of that, the ballparks are a lot smaller (now). You didn’t (used to) see as many ball players hit balls to the opposite field for homeruns and certainly the way it is now that’s just a standard.”

I've always thought having a job making cold calls and sticking business cards on restaurants bulletin boards sucked, but that's nothing compared to actually paying attention and writing down what Chip Caray and Buck Martinez say. I hope this Brown character was handsomely paid for what must be the suckiest job in America. Meanwhile, I found watching yesterday's game far more enjoyable by listening to Miles' Saturday Night at the Nighthawk with the TV sound off. Infinitely far.

And I think Hank Mobley got a bit of a bad rap from Miles and others about his sax playing.

Personally, I think that this Biz of Baseball article is more interesting. From what I can tell, Brown has a great job, except for the handsomely paid part.

Maybe its just me, but I'm struggling to see what is wrong with those quotes. Isn't CBP a pretty good home run park? Isn't the 500 home run mark a bit easier to achieve these days?

Since this is a biz of baseball thread and there is no Dugout, SCOTUS has not accepted MLB and MLBPA's appeal of the fantasy baseball case.

When did The Middleweight Champion get a bad rap?
