THE GREAT JOHN HIGGINS WILL THROW OUT FIRST PITCH

The ceremonial first pitch before Game 1 of the ALDS at Tropicana Field will be delivered by team senior vice president John Higgins, the first employee hired by the Rays in 1995.

The first pitch before Game 2 will go to Paul Azinger, captain of the victorious U.S. Ryder Cup team and a Bradenton resident.

Higgins will be joined on the field by many of the other 51 original employees still with the Rays’ organization.

“The hard work and dedication by our entire organization have enabled us to reach this extraordinary moment.  The ceremonial first pitch for our first-ever postseason game is a fitting tribute to their contributions,” Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg said in a press release issued by the team.

My god, to have the great John Higgins throw out the first pitch is quite a coup. Just imagine the fans roaring for their great hero as he strides to the mound!

I still like the idea of the longest-tenured season ticket holder. Higgins at least got to draw a paycheck from the club; that poor bastard had to pay for years of misery.

This is a big time dud. The ticket holder thing would be way better.

"And Rays fans, to honor your dedication to the team, please direct your attention to the mound, where one of us will throw out the first pitch."

The first pitch should come from the biggest Tampa Bay baseball figure- George Steinbrenner.

Hulk Hogan and Brian "Nasty Boy" Knobbs should be tag-teaming out the first pitch!

Thomas Magnum considers this decision by the Rays to be proof positive that Higgins really is Robin Masters.
