I think Kevin Goldstein is going to bust a vein in his forehead at the Castro pick......
   302. JJ1986 Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:11 PM (#2807458)
I would have liked to see Billy Beane as that pick was announced.
   303. We don't have dahlians at the Palace of Wisdom Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:12 PM (#2807459)
If Texas picks Smoak, all I'm going to be thinking about all day is if we had lost one more game to the Rangers last year we'd be picking right now.

Epic burn.
   304. Dr Love Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:12 PM (#2807461)
Please, a moment of silence for a chair in Oakland.
   305. There are no words... (Met Fan Charlie) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:12 PM (#2807462)
Smoak on the Lone Star State
   306. Iwakuma Chameleon (jonathan) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:12 PM (#2807463)
This is just like the 2006 NBA Draft, when Rudy Gay almost fell to the Warriors and we instead wound up with Patrick O'Bryant.
   307. Guts Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:12 PM (#2807464)
*throws chair*

/Beane

EDIT - Damn, beaten.

Spite. Pure spite you Texas bastards.
   309. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:12 PM (#2807468)
Smoak is one ugly-ass mothafucka.
   310. AJM Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:13 PM (#2807471)
Smoak looks like he smoked something before his picture was taken.
   311. Shooty: Applying to be Fearless Leader Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:13 PM (#2807472)
#### it. Take Lawrie!

Looks like Ethan Martin may fall to the Twins or Dodgers..
   313. Elston Gunn Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:15 PM (#2807474)
This is one of those times I regret the anti-swearing policy of Primer.

THANK YOU PETER!

God. Most misunderstood book ever.
   315. Dr Love Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2807479)
Damn, did Gammons just throw down on Ravech?
   316. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2807480)
As opposed to the other Universities of Missouri

Hey! I'm attending the University of Missouri at Kansas City! We still exist!

They showed a cut of the A's war room and there literally looked like there was a 16 year old kid manning a laptop.
   317. Iwakuma Chameleon (jonathan) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2807482)
God that sucked.
   318. A One-Shoed Craig K Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2807483)
Hmm.
   319. There are no words... (Met Fan Charlie) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2807484)
Man, those A's interns are getting younger & younger...
   320. Elston Gunn Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2807486)
This is one of those times I regret the anti-swearing policy of Primer.

This is another one of those times.

Boooo! BOOOOOOO! ####### BOOOOOOOOOOO!
   322. Tony H. Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:17 PM (#2807489)
They showed video of the Oakland draft room earlier. There is a camera in there. I wish they would show what happened when the Smoak selection was announced.
   323. PreservedFish Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:17 PM (#2807490)
Wow, Jemile Weeks to Oakland
   324. There are no words... (Met Fan Charlie) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:17 PM (#2807491)
A's go on for Weeks.
   325. JJ1986 Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:18 PM (#2807493)
Weeks looks tiny.
   326. Guts Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:18 PM (#2807494)
Quoting yourself, eh?

Weeks was just compared to Delino DeShields.
   327. Shooty: Applying to be Fearless Leader Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:18 PM (#2807495)
My god. We've become Jets fans!
   328. Teheran's Uranium Enriched Missiles Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:18 PM (#2807498)
The A's Weekly ground out to Jemile
   329. Kyle S at work Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:18 PM (#2807500)
Man, Smoak to Weeks - talk about a dropoff. That hurts.
   330. Dr Love Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:19 PM (#2807503)
Weeks was just compared to Delino DeShields.

So he'll turn into a Pedro like player. That's not bad.
   331. SABRJoe Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:19 PM (#2807504)
Trade Weeks for Pedro...
   332. Jimmy P Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:19 PM (#2807505)
Weeks was just compared to Delino DeShields.

Maybe you can get Pedro for him
   333. Iwakuma Chameleon (jonathan) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:19 PM (#2807506)
Jemile and Cliff Pennington should make for a great middle infield at Sacramento in seven years.
   334. Jimmy P Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:19 PM (#2807508)
D'oh-eth!
   335. Jimmy P Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:20 PM (#2807512)
KLaw is saying rumor mill has Wallace here
   336. A One-Shoed Craig K Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:21 PM (#2807518)
Someone get Keith onto BTF!
   337. SABRJoe Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2807521)
Aaron Hicks is getting pretty lonely in the green room...
   338. A One-Shoed Craig K Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2807522)
Who?
   339. Dr Love Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2807524)
Matt Stairs x2. Not sure that's a good thing.
   340. Dan Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2807526)
That kid does NOT look like a third baseman.
   341. Kyle S at work Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2807527)
Interesting pick from the Cards' pov - i guess they try their best to keep him at third. I don't see El Hombre going anywhere.
   342. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2807528)
Aaron Hicks is black. That is news to me.
   343. SABRJoe Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:23 PM (#2807530)
Wow, I thought Wallace would slide more cuz of his too-big-for-jeans ass. I wanted BoSox to nab him. Interesting.
   344. A One-Shoed Craig K Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:23 PM (#2807531)
Oh goody; a fat third baseman going to a team with Albert Pujols at first. This will end well.
   345. Elston Gunn Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:23 PM (#2807532)
Gammons just called Wallace's body "Matt Stairs times two." Ummm, do they make uniforms that large?

Edit: beaten to it.
   346. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Molina Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:23 PM (#2807533)
And if he has to move across the field for the Cards, that position is knda blocked.
   347. Jimmy P Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:23 PM (#2807534)
Wallace. I never thought I'd see a guy with a bigger lower half than Prince Fielder, but damn. He's definitely not selling jeans.
   348. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:23 PM (#2807537)
The only thing Wallace appears to have hit is several rungs on the ugly tree.
   349. Gambling Rent Czar Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:24 PM (#2807540)
The Padres were rumored to be interested in Wallace, glad he got selected so that they can focus on drafting a starting pitcher that needs tommy john surgery
   350. AJM Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:24 PM (#2807541)
Wallace be fat.
   351. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Griffin (Vlad) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:25 PM (#2807544)
"Weeks looks tiny."

The better to draw walks, my dear.
   352. Swedish Chef Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:25 PM (#2807545)
Oh my god, Wallace accidentaly ate Weeks!
   353. Shooty: Applying to be Fearless Leader Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:26 PM (#2807548)
"Weeks looks tiny."

I'm going to hope for Tony Phillips minus the crack. It's my only hope.
   354. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Molina Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:26 PM (#2807549)
Only two pitchers in the first 13 picks?
   355. AJM Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:26 PM (#2807550)
The Padres were rumored to be interested in Wallace, glad he got selected so that they can focus on drafting a starting pitcher that needs tommy john surgery

They could take a shortstop that needs TJ surgery.
   356. SABRJoe Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:26 PM (#2807551)
I'm gonna miss not hearing Lasorda saying "The wonderful Los Angeles Dodgers select the fine gentleman Aaron Hicks from Long Beach Wilson High School." Wait, no I won't.
   357. cardsfanboy Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:27 PM (#2807554)
as a Cardinal fan should I be happy? sad? ambivalent?
   358. Ivan Grushenko of Hong Kong Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:27 PM (#2807555)
Goldstein said earlier that he would explain why Weeks was a good pick at #12 after it happened. The best he could come up with is that there were teams in the 20's hoping he'd fall that far. I'm underwhelmed.
   359. A One-Shoed Craig K Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:28 PM (#2807559)

Minneapolis is a Hicks town.
   361. danielj Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:28 PM (#2807563)
Please, someone take the college relivers before the Mets pick!
   362. Elston Gunn Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2807565)
So both the Reds and Cardinals (and kind of the Rangers if Salty can't catch) went the LaPorta route in a draft filled with CI and not much else. What do you all think of that?
   363. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Griffin (Vlad) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2807566)
"I'm going to hope for Tony Phillips minus the crack."

Know what we need now? Another joke about Wallace's ass!
   364. AJM Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2807568)
Hicks is skinny.
   365. Swedish Chef Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2807570)
Goldstein said earlier that he would explain why Weeks was a good pick at #12 after it happened.

He's cheap.
   366. Gambling Rent Czar Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2807571)
MLB.com's summary of Hicks
Hicks is one of the more athletic outfielders in the high school ranks and perhaps in the Draft class. How high he gets drafted depends on how highly people project what he can become. He's got a ton of tools, but will he learn how to use them? Someone is sure to take that chance

what?
   367. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:30 PM (#2807573)
Oh God, they're going to take Fields, aren't they? Oh God.

Mike Piazza retired too soon?

Atleast this OF the Twins picked might develop some power.
   371. Brandon in MO (Yunitility Infielder) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:30 PM (#2807578)
Hicks can either go in the first round, or be shunned out of baseball. It can go either way.
   372. cardsfanboy Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:30 PM (#2807579)
other than positional blockage, is there an upside to this guy?(Wallace) seems to be a good bat, big body. Heck can he become legitimate trade bait for a Kazmir level starter?
   373. Roger Cedeno's Spleen Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:30 PM (#2807580)
Holy ####. Castro at 10.

LOLsignability!

Thanks, Drayton...
   374. Jimmy P Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:31 PM (#2807581)
as a Cardinal fan should I be happy? sad? ambivalent?

Wallace is one of the best pure bats in college. He's lefty. The guy could be another Thome.

Or he could just be huge.
   375. Shooty: Applying to be Fearless Leader Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:32 PM (#2807583)

Sure. If he hits like Miggy Cabrera the first 3 years of his MLB career.

Atleast this OF the Twins picked might develop some power.

Maybe around the same time Delmon Young does.

I think we are going to see a bunch of pitchers picked now. Damn, how much did Friedrich's stock drop?

And who is going to gamble on Scheppers?
   379. Dr Love Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:32 PM (#2807590)
Apparently the 15th pick is midway point of the entire draft.
   380. Gambling Rent Czar Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:32 PM (#2807591)

Yay, Selig is back to the prompter!
   382. Tony H. Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:33 PM (#2807594)
Back to the teleprompter!
   383. JJ1986 Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:33 PM (#2807595)
Martin as a third baseman? Or is Selig wrong?

Pujols will be gone from St. Louis before 2012, at the latest.

If they do that, I'm switching my allegiances to my backup team.
   385. Gambling Rent Czar Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:34 PM (#2807600)
Selig is reading off the teleprompter again. How hard is it to read "Georgia"

Ethan Martin hits Hollywood.

Weeks is a classic, cheap, mediocre A's pick. We'd only be so lucky if he turns out any better than Cliff Pennington.
   388. PreservedFish Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:34 PM (#2807604)
I predict that the prompter will be gone next selection. That was disastrous

I finally called one. Martin going to the Dodgers.
   390. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:34 PM (#2807606)
Mayo's head is at least twice as large as Hicks'. WOW.

Pujols will be gone from St. Louis before 2012, at the latest.

Why? I see no reason this would happen.

I'm sure it got mentioned before, but has Selig's hair gone prematurely magenta, or is the color going out on my tv?
   394. Dr Love Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:36 PM (#2807613)
That is a hell of a lot of hair on Gordon Beckham. Donald Trump must be jealous. Jesus, it's James Trafficant-esque.
   395. Freeballin' (Tales of Met Power) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:36 PM (#2807614)
Selig wears a rug.

Please take Josh Fields, Brewers.
