Gordon, can you talk for a minute about the hedgehog that has taken up residence on your scalp?
   402. AJM Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:36 PM (#2807623)
Nice wig, Beck.

Gordon rocking The Donald.

He must wear a size 15 hat to fit that hair in.
   405. PreservedFish Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:37 PM (#2807627)
He looks like the lead singer from Herman's Hermits. So much so that his hairstyle might be a tribute to him.

Brew Crew take Lawrie. Damn Canadians.
   410. DCW3 Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:38 PM (#2807636)
Why? I see no reason this would happen.

It may just be my own pessimism talking, but I just can't see the Cardinals being willing to pay the $250-$300 million that Pujols is likely to get when he hits free agency. Either they'll let him walk, or they'll trade him before he hits the market.
   411. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:38 PM (#2807637)
Ahhh. Too much pressure. College reliever. Mets. Ahhh.

The 2008 Draft: CATCHERMANIA

Lawrie is a Strange Brewer, eh?
   414. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:40 PM (#2807641)
C'mon Jays! Low ceiling college player!

That's your own pessimism. Pujols won't get $300M, and even if he does, the Cards would be insane not to give it to him. Not retaining Albert would confirm every terrible opinion about the ownership, and spark a major fan revolt.
   416. Teheran's Uranium Enriched Missiles Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:41 PM (#2807643)
so Lawrie can be called La Batt now?
   417. PreservedFish Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:41 PM (#2807644)
Was hoping for Lawrie to the Mets. Now I'm hoping for Ike Davis versus any reliever
   418. Brandon in MO (Yunitility Infielder) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:42 PM (#2807647)
And if Pujols signed with KC, then it would be epically awesome. Until we realized that Pujols was really 35.
   419. There are no words... (Met Fan Charlie) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:42 PM (#2807648)
My money's on Davis.
   420. Teheran's Uranium Enriched Missiles Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:42 PM (#2807650)
Pujols was really 35.

When he orchestrated the plot to kill Archduke Franz Ferdinand?
   421. JJ1986 Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:43 PM (#2807653)
I'd like the Mets to get either Shooter Hunt or Christian Friedrich with 18 now.
   422. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:43 PM (#2807655)
How many rounds are they doing today?
   423. Guts Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:43 PM (#2807656)

That would be great for the Royals. Usually players are revealed to be older than believed, not younger.
   425. PreservedFish Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:43 PM (#2807658)
I think if you take Davis now odds are that one of the pitchers you are looking at will also be available at 22
   426. Ravecc Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:44 PM (#2807660)
Friedrich or Melville for the Mets, please.
   427. Gambling Rent Czar Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:44 PM (#2807661)
couldn't they just leave Selig "behind the wall"
   428. AJM Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:44 PM (#2807663)
Mets on the clock. Please no reliever, please no reliever, please no reliever...
   429. Brandon in MO (Yunitility Infielder) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:44 PM (#2807664)
Wait, a 6'1/210lb First Baseman?

Blue Jays fly with Coop.
   431. Jimmy P Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:45 PM (#2807666)
WHo is David Cooper? I don't remember reading about him.
   432. DCW3 Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:45 PM (#2807667)

Well, of course I hope you're right, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Cooper to Toronto. Who?

MLB.com's scouting report on Cooper.
Base Running: He won't clog the bases, but he won't help much with his legs.

   438. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:46 PM (#2807676)
I liked Cooper as a possible second round pick...maybe a sandwich pick. Good power and plate discipline. Bit of a reach for mid-first round.

This is a draft for catchers and no field big guys.
   441. There are no words... (Met Fan Charlie) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:47 PM (#2807680)
Cooper to Toronto. Who?

Why, the first baseman from the University of California, Berkeley, Berkeley, California, of course.

1 minute till the Mets select a 35 year old washed up outfielder

"CATCHERMANIA"

I hope the Mets make a worse pick than the A's. I don't want us to be the crybabies of this draft.
   446. Ravecc Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:49 PM (#2807693)
Ike Davis. Whew!
   447. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:49 PM (#2807694)
We like IKE!

IKE DAVIS

wait.. this guy got picked below Cooper?

Yay.

Mets select....BLAIR THOMAS?!?!?? NO!!!!
   452. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Griffin (Vlad) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:49 PM (#2807699)
Huh, Ike Davis. Much better pick than I expected from the Mets.
   453. Will Young Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:49 PM (#2807700)
Ron Davis really, really sucked.

There's always Houston.

Another 1B! Davis to the M-E-T-S!
   456. Dr Love Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:50 PM (#2807705)
Ike Davis throws 88-89. He should easily convert into a lousy reliever.
   457. There are no words... (Met Fan Charlie) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:50 PM (#2807708)
Like I said...

Mets like Ike!
   458. PreservedFish Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:50 PM (#2807709)
Ike Davis ... happy with that!
   459. bfan Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:50 PM (#2807710)
"This is a draft for catchers and no field big guys."

AL GM's have got to be getting tired of limited power, .230 hitting DH's.
   460. Brandon in MO (Yunitility Infielder) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:51 PM (#2807711)
So, will the Mariners find a guy who will take Jose Vidro's job?
   461. PreservedFish Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:51 PM (#2807714)
Omar continues to focus on only Jewish players
   462. SABRJoe Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:54 PM (#2807722)
Friedrich would be a great pick for Cubbies.
   463. bfan Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:54 PM (#2807726)
"So, will the Mariners find a guy who will take Jose Vidro's job?"

A DH with a .599 OPS? If they don't, the GM shouldn't last in his jib beyond sundown.
   464. Gambling Rent Czar Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:55 PM (#2807728)
does anybody have a link for better scouting reports than what is on MLB.com ..i can't take much more of "won't clog the bases" and "where he gets drafted depends how much organizations value his talent"
   465. There are no words... (Met Fan Charlie) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:55 PM (#2807731)
Cubs get Cashner on the barrel.

Good pick for the Cubbies.
   466. PreservedFish Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:55 PM (#2807732)
Cubs take Cashner
   467. Brandon in MO (Yunitility Infielder) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:56 PM (#2807733)

"Mets like Ike!"

Who doesn't? He's a junkie and a wife-beater, but nobody else can make the organ sing the way he does.

Jib? Is that a subtle Mariners pun?

Which is why Bavasi is hiding in his studdingsail.

Brett Wallace doesn't let his fat ass hold him back

Ask him about his bottom half, Karl
   474. Gambling Rent Czar Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:58 PM (#2807744)
Cashner threw a 90-92 MPH fastball for his career, and now its up to 98.
I thought that they were testing the first round guys for the juice?
   475. bfan Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:59 PM (#2807747)
A typo turned pun; not bad. Just draft a dang hitter, Mariners.
   476. Gambling Rent Czar Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:59 PM (#2807748)
#469, thanks
   477. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 06:59 PM (#2807751)

Also, how many rounds are they doing today?

Thank you, Bill Bavasi.
   480. Teheran's Uranium Enriched Missiles Posted: June 05, 2008 at 07:00 PM (#2807758)
Friedrich is the big faller, I think. Law was linking the Ms with Scheppers. THey want the pitchers to be injured before they enter the system now!
   481. PreservedFish Posted: June 05, 2008 at 07:01 PM (#2807759)
Fields to Mariners
   482. bfan Posted: June 05, 2008 at 07:01 PM (#2807760)
Okay, move Josh Fields to closer, and JJ Putz to DH?
   483. AJM Posted: June 05, 2008 at 07:01 PM (#2807761)
Just what the Mariners need.
   484. Brandon in MO (Yunitility Infielder) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 07:01 PM (#2807762)

I love how Keith Law says one thing and then the MLB big wig says the exact opposite.
   488. Mike Webber Posted: June 05, 2008 at 07:03 PM (#2807766)
MLB guy comes in to stick up for the Old Boys Club -

"Bavasi been doing this a long time, he's never won dick, but he has been doing this a long time because he has the right last name."
   489. Shooty: Applying to be Fearless Leader Posted: June 05, 2008 at 07:03 PM (#2807767)
If a last place team needs anything, it's a relief pitcher!

They aren't really a last place team, they're just playing like it currently.
   490. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: June 05, 2008 at 07:03 PM (#2807768)
I was really hoping Josh Fields went to the White Sox.

   492. SABRJoe Posted: June 05, 2008 at 07:04 PM (#2807771)
Relievers have shorter life spans than starters? Tim Crews, Donnie Moore, Josh Hancock...yeah, Law has a point I guess.

For the team that drafted them, which was Law's point. Relievers come and go, starting pitchers you hold on to more often.

Awesome, all of the relief pitchers are gone now. Please take, Friedrich, Omar.
