The Possibly-Temporary Postseason Day Two Game Chatter

Since the Game Chatter does NOT have today’s games up yet, I figured I’d submit a catch-all discussion thread which, if I’m lucky, someone will sticky until Game Chatter shows up.

That was a bad pitch to Victorino. But CC got himself out of the inning when Myers was up and got jobbed. And then jobbed some more. And then some more. And then he made a bad pitch.
   302. Dan Posted: October 02, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2965290)
So was that the costliest pitch in MLB history? That one pitch to Victorino took what, $10 million off his contract? More? Less?
   303. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2965291)
the strike zone is inconsistent today. it's been so for both pitchers.
   304. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2965293)
This umpiring at home plate is garbage, yesterday and today.
   305. Lassus: Posted: October 02, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2965294)
I would have liked it better if Howard had nuzzled Myers' neck and then when Myers took a swing at him in the 6th, Howard breaks his jaw and arms.
   306. tl; dr (Voxter) Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2965295)
So was that the costliest pitch in MLB history?

Contracts weren't as huge then, but I'd say the second time Dravecky's arm went kablooie probably cost him a bunch of money.

I'm really tempted to say that if Sabathia doesn't get another start in these playoffs, that might be difference in getting that 7th year. If that's the case, it's more like 20-25M...
   308. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:04 PM (#2965297)
huge inning from Myers there.
   309. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:04 PM (#2965298)
I think CC has given up almost as many runs tonight as he did in all of September. Good thing for CC that there is only one October.
   310. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:04 PM (#2965299)
i love giant umbrella commercials too.
   311. CiC Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2965300)
Just got the game on. Has Sabathia looked bad or was it just a mistake pitch?
   312. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2965301)
enjoying the post-season less and less.
   313. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:06 PM (#2965302)
it's a mix of looking a little bad, not getting a called strike and then making a big big mistake. He is normally not shakable.
   314. Lassus: Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2965304)
That 5-run inning decimated the chatter.
   315. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2965306)
i despise K-ing after a 3-0 start.
   316. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:09 PM (#2965308)
The Brewers are a 3 run homer from seeing Lidge again. Looking forward to it.

That 5-run inning decimated the chatter.

The number of Chatterers was reduced by one-tenth?
   318. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:10 PM (#2965310)
Burrell looks better today.
   319. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2965311)
That 5-run inning decimated the chatter.

Yeah,it did. Hopefully Milwaukee can get back into it and bring back some chatter.
   320. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:12 PM (#2965312)
Five hits. All for extra bases.
   321. Justin T contains indigenous nudity Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:13 PM (#2965313)
The folds of CC's neck are less adorable when down by four runs.
   322. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:13 PM (#2965314)
It is possible that in 8 games, the Philles will only see CC once and on 3 days rest in Philly. Are the Brewers really a .450 team without CC right now?
   323. The Kids Are Enright (1k5v3L) Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:14 PM (#2965317)
CC's #### doesn't work in the playoffs
   324. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:15 PM (#2965318)
Prince Fielder coming up next inning. If the Brewers are going to rally, it might start with a solo jack from him.
   325. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:16 PM (#2965319)
Some offense, please?
   326. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:17 PM (#2965320)
I nearly spoiled a group's watching party, they DVR'd and started watching at 6 cst.
   327. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:17 PM (#2965321)
id rather he hits solo homers to lead off innings, then comes up 3rd and knocks a few of his teammates in to boot.
   328. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2965322)
If Sabathia takes the L in this game, he will be 2-3 under Sveum.

The Yost firing is clearly the problem.
   329. Crispix Attacks Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2965323)
That's going to drive up CC's post season ERA.

His postseason ERA is already 7.17 in four starts before today...but this could drive it up, yes.

I hate inconsistent strike zones in the playoffs although they don't bother me in the regular season. Although it's affecting both pitchers similarly today.
   330. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:19 PM (#2965324)
Sabathia is really building a quite unimpressive post-season resume. The Yankees will run.
   331. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2965325)
These dugout interviews are indispensable.
   332. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2965326)
well....if you're gonna hit a guy 0-2, don't graze him. Get your money's worth.

Although it's affecting both pitchers similarly today.

Not only did I miss the grand slam Myers gave up, but TBS did too. The score graphic still says 5-1 Phillies.
   334. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2965328)
Plunking somebody is risky, always.
   335. The Polish Sausage Racer Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2965329)
That seems to be the only way Corey can get on base any more.
   336. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:21 PM (#2965330)
The Brewers are on AutoFail i'm afraid. *sigh*
   337. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:23 PM (#2965332)
Not only did I miss the grand slam Myers gave up, but TBS did too.

Corey Hart had his shot at one.....can't count on the ump to throw it over the wall for him too.
   338. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2965334)
Great play by CC.
   339. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:25 PM (#2965336)
C'mon Carlos - no first pitch swings....
   340. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:25 PM (#2965337)
He's very athletic for a big man. He'll age better than people think.
   341. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2965339)
that's the best hat catch ive seen in a long time.
   342. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2965340)
I think that kid that just made the play with his cap will age pretty well, too. Very adroit.
   343. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2965341)
Luke Appling? Don't you mean Dustin Pedroia?
   344. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2965342)
What sucks is that in the 1st inning Milwaukee really displayed a playoff caliber approach at the plate. They took several pitches, got 2 walks and then a 3rd, IBB, which Milwaukee really needed to make CM pay for. Now the Brewers are back to swinging for a solo HR.
   345. Justin T contains indigenous nudity Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2965343)
Just ####### bean him already!
   346. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2965344)
CC has no sink to his slider, just lateral movement. That is what is missing, his arm is fatigued and thus it has dropped.
   347. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:28 PM (#2965345)
Who would have thought the Sabathia-Myers duels would be so epic?
   348. Rodder Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:28 PM (#2965346)
I've never seen Myers with at bats that look this good.
   349. Lassus: Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:28 PM (#2965347)
Myers is totally in his head.

Which is just odd.
   350. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2965349)
Pitches per AB for Myers vs CC: 9½
   351. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:30 PM (#2965351)
Did Gagne make the post season roster for the Brewers?
   352. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2965354)
never mind ....answer is yes ...see post #264
   353. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2965356)
Did Rollins just hit 3-0, or did I miss something?
   354. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2965357)
Gagne has a 0.00 ERA, 0r, 2h, 2bb, 8k in his last 9 appearances, 8.2 IP. The Brewers bullpen has actually dominated mostly for the last half of Sept. Save Torres. Including Mota, who has dominated for 50 days now.
   355. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2965359)
I agree it's the right move.....but this has got to be a slap to Chase Utley. Nobody IBBs the guy in front of him.
   356. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2965360)
Did Rollins just hit 3-0, or did I miss something?

It was 3-1.
   357. Rodder Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2965361)
Walking Vic to get to Utley?
   358. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2965362)
Does anyone know the Phillies game 4 starter? Hamels surely won't go in that game if the Phils lead 2-1.
   359. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2965363)
I hate sweeps in series where I have no rooting interest.

Blanton.

Blanton.

Sweep? it is 1-0, we are only in the 4th inning. Phils not even half way there yet.
   363. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:35 PM (#2965369)
Save Torres.

Haven't seen that written much lately.

Edit: It was 3-1.

Thanks. Stupid beer, making me miss pitches.
   364. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:36 PM (#2965371)
Phils not even half way there yet.

Yes, but momentum-wise, it feels almost like this game is over. Sabathia is in shambles, the Bullpen will have to go a long way, and Brett Myers has become a pitch-count enlarging god.
   365. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2965372)
I would've left him out there against Howard. Howard might've walked, or might've whiffed, but I doubt he'd have made meaningful contact.
   366. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:37 PM (#2965374)
Unimpressive day for CC. That's a truck of money walking off the field with him.
   367. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2965377)
then again...it was 98 pitches by my count.
   368. Slivers of Maranville (SdeB) Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2965378)
Now that CC is coming out, I might as well ask -- does he wear the largest baseball glove of all time? That thing is humongous.
   369. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:39 PM (#2965379)
That's a truck of money walking off the field with him.

He'll be fine.
   370. Lassus: Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:40 PM (#2965380)
This would be a great game for Milwaukee to come back and win.

Back-breaking.
   371. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:41 PM (#2965382)
I never knew the league MVP, Howard, was so easily neutralized by a LHP. Who knew?
   372. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:41 PM (#2965383)
I love how we can edit on Newsblog Game Chatters.
   373. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:41 PM (#2965384)
Phils have left 5 on now, 4 RISP. 4 runs in CBB isn't a game ender. They need to pile on.
   374. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:41 PM (#2965385)
C. Sabathia, 3.2 IP, 6 hits, 4 walks, 5 K's, 1 HR, 5 ER, 12.27 ERA.
   375. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2965387)
Baseball is magical. The Philles bullpen is tired after a good season, but started to crack in Sept. More baseball left here in game 2.
   376. Crispix Attacks Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2965388)
Does anyone know the Phillies game 4 starter? Hamels surely won't go in that game if the Phils lead 2-1.

He won't? In a game where the Brewers could come back to tie the series?

I thought the rotation was Hamels-Myers-Moyer-Hamels-Myers, no matter what the scenarios were.

Blanton is the other starter on the roster. Well, Jay "J.A." Happ too.
   377. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2965389)
"Who knew?"

BUT HE HIT A CLUTCH HR OFF MIKE GONZALEZ.

Howard only hits lefties in big spots. Every ####### hit he gets is big.
   378. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:45 PM (#2965393)
Stuff I want to see during the rest of the game:
Ryan Howard strikes out and hits a Home Run... on the same pitch.
Brett Myers gets a hit
Inspired by his brother, Mike Maddux comes out and pitches in relief
Tony Gwynn Jr.... Hey, wait a second, he's on deck!
   379. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:46 PM (#2965394)
"If you get the first guy out, then the rally is not as big." Truer words were never... uh... what....
   380. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:48 PM (#2965395)
"They (Tony Gwynn Sr. and Jr.) sound alike"

So they both sound like kids entering puberty?
   381. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:48 PM (#2965396)
with TGJr PH-ing in the 5th...does that mean the Brewers have no more OF's on the roster for rest of game? I thought Bill Hall was a CFer last year?
   382. Metman died today. Or yesterday maybe, Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:49 PM (#2965398)
The Philles bullpen is tired after a good season, but started to crack in Sept.

Madson is the key reliever, especially against the Breweres, and he's been lights out for the last two months.

The Brewers are deflated. They were let down by their ace in the hole. This is over now.
   383. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2965399)
Metman, is your name a reference to Camus' The Stranger or is it unintentional?
   384. Metman died today. Or yesterday maybe, Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2965401)
Nothing is unintentional, my friend.
   385. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2965402)
Myers has thrown 72 pitches through five and has only given up one hit. The Brewers better figure him out soon, or it's going to be the eighth inning four runs in the hole. Not looking good.
   386. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2965403)
Who says Milwaukee can't hit 4 HR in this game still?
   387. Rodder Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2965405)
For the Phillies, the best news today is Myers looking so good. He was really off his last two starts, but they are back to having a dynamite 1-2 punch for the playoffs. And Moyer is certainly not a bad #3.
   388. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2965406)
Sweet scoop by the big man.
   389. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2965407)
I'd just like to clarify that Burrell @ 2B is not a RISP.
   390. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:57 PM (#2965408)
The Brewers remain an emotionally fragile team. CC was holding this group together. Now he's off the field.
   391. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2965409)
Who says Milwaukee can't hit 4 HR in this game still?

Nobody. Certainly possible. If I'm Milwaukee, though, I'd like to see more hits already on the board than I need going forward. A 9-5 deficit is less imposing than a 5-1 deficit when you have only one hit after two times through the lineup.
   392. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2965411)
If Brett Myers gets a hit, he'll never have to pay for dinner in Philly again.
   393. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2965412)
Brett Myers will never have to pay for dinner in Philly again.

I rest my case.

I'd just like to clarify that Burrell @ 2B is not a RISP.

This point just emphasized.
   396. Rodder Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2965415)
This series reminds me so far of the Phillies-Rockies series last year. The back-breaking grand slam, the Brewers not coming up with the big hit, the body language of the Brewers. I guess this means we lose the World Series this year.
   397. Rodder Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:00 PM (#2965417)
Okay, who is wearing Brett Myers uniform and pretending to be him when he bats today.
   398. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:01 PM (#2965418)
8 LOB now, 6 RISP.

I thought that was in RF when it left the bat. Oh well.
   399. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2965419)
How many times are the Brewers going to wriggle out of bases-loaded jams?
   400. Rodder Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:02 PM (#2965420)
Ouch! Back to back innings leaving the bases loaded.
