The Possibly-Temporary Postseason Day Two Game Chatter

Since the Game Chatter does NOT have today’s games up yet, I figured I’d submit a catch-all discussion thread which, if I’m lucky, someone will sticky until Game Chatter shows up.

For those new to the 2008, post Yost Brewers. This team has been getting no hit or 1 hit or 2 hit 2-3 times through the lineup and then always staging a late rally. I would be satisfied if Milwaukee had the tying run at the plate in the 9th again.
   402. nick swisher hygiene Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:03 PM (#2965422)
great disgusted look from Rollins after that ball was caught
   403. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:04 PM (#2965424)
Dempster did it a couple times last night. The phils cashed in on a bases loaded sitch in the 2nd....
   404. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:05 PM (#2965425)
Okay, I expected Hamels would be a October Hero, and Manny Ramirez too. Even Evan Longoria wasn't too far out. But BRETT MYERS??!?!?!
   405. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:05 PM (#2965427)
I would be satisfied if Milwaukee had the tying run at the plate in the 9th again.

I've said that many times when my team was down 4 runs in the middle of the game as well.

4 SB on Kendall. Time to play Rivera.
   407. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:06 PM (#2965429)
Sheesh, Braun. Show some ####### discipline.
   408. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:07 PM (#2965430)
Howard looked skinny next to Prince.
   409. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:07 PM (#2965431)
The Brewers look disheartened and disinterested.
   410. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:07 PM (#2965432)
The Brewers have not scored 5 or more runs against a REAL pitching staff since September 18th when they lost to the Cubs 7-6 in 12 innings.

They beat up Marquis the day before but he's not a quality major league starter.

The last starter they beat who could be termed "good" was Wandy Rodriguez of the Astros on August 20th........
   411. KyleJRM Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2965433)
How many seasons does Marquis have to post a 100 or better ERA+ before people stop ripping on him?
   412. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2965434)
4 SB on Kendall. Sabathia.
   413. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2965435)
4 SB on Kendall. Time to play Rivera.

Kinda rough to pin those on Kendall. Seems like they've been running on the pitcher.
   414. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2965436)
ok .... seriously....how do i do a strikethrough?
   415. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2965437)
CAMERON!!!!
   416. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2965439)
Cameron has played a terrible CF.
   417. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2965440)
when did Cameron forget how to field?
   418. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:11 PM (#2965441)
#413, Im looking for anything to get Rivera in the game. 2009's Kelly Stoppach.
   419. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:11 PM (#2965442)
This doesn't work as a strikethrough?

On edit, yeah, it does. Use [ instead of < and "strike."
   420. Rodder Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:12 PM (#2965443)
What a day for Victorino. 3 extra base hits, and and IBB so the pitcher could face Utley instead!
   421. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2965444)
The Brewers look like an NBA team that is only interested in getting touches. The only way Milwaukee gets back into this, is if McClung beans a star, causes a huge brawl and is able to take out 2 or 3 Phillies.
   422. KyleJRM Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2965445)
Cameron's been living on reputation all year.7
   423. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2965446)
4 SB on <strike>Kendall.</strike> Sabathia.
   424. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2965448)
The Cubs have had a fine defense the last two seasons. Marquis strikes out too few and walks too many to be taken seriously as a "quality" major league starter. He's Jeff Suppan with more talented teammates.
   425. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:13 PM (#2965450)
thanks c.s.
   426. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:14 PM (#2965452)
If the Brewers get swept, then at least they might conduct a real search for manager and get off this 1982 Brewers business.
   427. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:15 PM (#2965453)
Well, this is a fine thing to come home to. Christ.
   428. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:15 PM (#2965454)
Post 426:

Agree completely.

The fascination with 1980's retreads is baffling........
   429. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2965455)
Cameron's been living on reputation all year.7

Not true. Cameron may not be a gold glove caliber CF anymore, but he is not Griffey. Cameron is still solid out there. These past 2 days are just bad timing and a ton of wind, at least yesterday.
   430. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2965456)
pitch one - ok...pitches 2 and 3? ehhhhhh
   431. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:17 PM (#2965457)
The Cubs have had a fine defense the last two seasons. Marquis strikes out too few and walks too many to be taken seriously as a "quality" major league starter. He's Jeff Suppan with more talented teammates.

Yeah, but he's OK for a #5, which is all the Cubs need him to be (and I've dogged on him as much as anyone). Well, for the postseason, I suppose they "need" him to be a passable mopup reliever, which isn't an idea that impresses me particularly.
   432. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:17 PM (#2965458)
Wow, if McClung gets out of this, guy on 2nd 0 out. His stock has skyrocketed in my book, after today and his performance last weekend.
   433. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:18 PM (#2965459)
Jason Wyrth is what Corey Hart fans think he is.
   434. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:18 PM (#2965460)
Man--98 pitches for CC in 3.2? Ouch.
   435. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2965461)
The Brewers seem willing to buck convention. Maybe they should hire Buck Showalter after the World Series, then fire him in February and hire Bob Uecker.
   436. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2965462)
Nice job by McClung. Time for the offense to wake up here.
   437. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:20 PM (#2965464)
Post 433:

Players slump. What's concerning is how he's looking in the process. Corey Hart at the plate resembles someone who played cricket for 25 years and has been asked to fill in at the major league level with no understanding of how American baseball is played.
   438. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:22 PM (#2965465)
What is Brett Myers up to in pitches?
   439. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:23 PM (#2965466)
Showalter is someone I would like, at least that "type". The only manager that I think can save Weeks, is a guy like that.
   440. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:23 PM (#2965467)
79 pitches through 6 for Myers.
   441. I Munson'ed myself (BBF) Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:24 PM (#2965468)
hmmmm...
   442. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:24 PM (#2965469)
What the announcers say is true. The Brewers are not hitting pitches.

Hey, there they go. Here comes the rally.
   443. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:24 PM (#2965470)
About time.
   444. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:24 PM (#2965471)
It is WINNING TIME Milwaukee!
   445. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:24 PM (#2965472)
C'mon--make Myers know how his wife feels.
   446. Dan Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:25 PM (#2965473)
That was an incredible throw.
   447. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:25 PM (#2965474)
The only manager that I think can save Weeks, is a guy like that.

Bowa?
   448. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:25 PM (#2965475)
Wyrth has a "great" arm? Really? 2000's great or 1970s great arm?
   449. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:25 PM (#2965476)
Wow, Werth's arm is a CANNON!
   450. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:25 PM (#2965477)
Hey--Hart took a pitch.
   451. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:26 PM (#2965478)
Come on, 2 doubles and the Brewers have the tying run at the plate.
   452. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:26 PM (#2965479)
Right now, Myers couldn't hit the strike zone even if it got way out of line.
   453. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:27 PM (#2965480)
That strike zone might be avoiding getting hit now, but it'll stay in its place if it knows what's good for it.
   454. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:27 PM (#2965481)
Sometimes the strike zone doesn't know when to shut up.
   455. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:28 PM (#2965482)
The strike zone understands, though, that pitching is a tough job, and he just gets stressed sometimes.
   456. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2965484)
You know how strike zones are sometimes. You come into the game after a rough bullpen session...
   457. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2965485)
Do I owe Clement a Coke? I think maybe.
   458. Lassus: Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2965486)
DAMMIT.

I wanted 2 runs there.
   459. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:30 PM (#2965487)
5-2, save situation. Does that mean we see Lidge Phillies fans? I want Braun to see him, he owns Lidge. Only way that occurs is if we see a 123 8th, which I don't want to see.
   460. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:30 PM (#2965488)
The Strike Zone may be depressed, since his girlfriend the 50-Yard Line dumped him.
   461. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:31 PM (#2965489)
J Smoltz, grade as analyst?
   462. Gern Blanston Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:31 PM (#2965490)
All right--I'm out of strike zone/domestic abuse analogies. Off to watch the Cubs embarrass themselves again.
   463. SteveM. Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:31 PM (#2965491)
Retro, aren't you going to the game tonight?
   464. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:31 PM (#2965492)
Well, here comes Gagne to give Lidge the night off.
   465. Cooperstown Schtick Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:32 PM (#2965493)
This chatter got me so excited I slapped my girlfriend. Now I have to watch the game alone. With this deflated piece of plastic. (I knew earrings would be a risky fashion choice.)
   466. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:34 PM (#2965494)
Hardy has played well.
   467. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:35 PM (#2965495)
he walked feliz, but the inconsistent strike zone struck again.
   468. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:39 PM (#2965496)
Gagne nearly 10 scoreless IP. What will his 2009 contract look like?
   469. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:42 PM (#2965498)
If it wasn't for these d*mn starters and their big innings this team might have made a series of it.

Either the Phillies are just toying with the Brewers or the bullpen has been taken over by aliens.
   470. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:42 PM (#2965500)
Trying run on deck. Braun in hole.
   471. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:43 PM (#2965501)
Mike, now would be a good time to make amends......
   472. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:44 PM (#2965502)
Come on Durham. Take a BB. Scratch out a hit. Texas Leaguer.
   473. Justin T contains indigenous nudity Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:44 PM (#2965503)
I think with a 3 run lead the Phils would try to get by without using Lidge after 35 or whatever pitches yesterday. But then again, day off tomorrow, so who knows.

I would try to get by without him.
   474. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:45 PM (#2965504)
Whatever you do, don't hit a double. Braun is the only player to tie this up.
   475. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:45 PM (#2965505)
Braun will hit the 1st pitch.
   476. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:47 PM (#2965506)
John Smoltz is actually not that bad.
   477. tl; dr (Voxter) Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:47 PM (#2965507)
Game ain't over yet.
   478. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:47 PM (#2965508)
PRINCE as the tying run in the 8th? I'd take it.
   479. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:48 PM (#2965510)
If I remember JC Romero from my days living in Minny, is that he has reverse splits. Also, Prince has a nice HR rate v LHP. Advantage Prince
   480. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:49 PM (#2965512)
this is the brewers chance to penalize the phils for not getting a few more runs.

Romero has been pretty good against LHB this year, but Prince is no ordinary LHB.
   481. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:49 PM (#2965513)
Okay, just checked. JC is better v LHP. That must have been one year fluke. How was JC Romero a free player last year?
   482. Dan Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:50 PM (#2965514)
If I remember JC Romero from my days living in Minny, is that he has reverse splits. Also, Prince has a nice HR rate v LHP. Advantage Prince

Career OPS split: .815 vs RHP, .591 vs LHP
   483. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:50 PM (#2965515)
Prince had a shaky Lidge on the mound yesterday and swung at a pitch 5 feet off the plate for a strikeout.....
   484. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:51 PM (#2965517)
no fair throwing the "cutter"
   485. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:51 PM (#2965518)
Well that didn't take long......
   486. Gamingboy Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:51 PM (#2965519)
Ichiro would have made it to first on that. Prince Fielder, however, is not Ichiro!

I have no idea where I am going with that analogy.
   487. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:51 PM (#2965520)
Did you see JC Romero use a half step pause, then deliver? Is that usual? Prince was fooled by that pause (borderline balk if you ask me) anyway, Prince committed to swinging 1st pitch, was caught off balance and that was that.
   488. Biff isn't really an apt handle anymore Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:52 PM (#2965521)
How was JC Romero a free player last year?

Well, he was ####### terrible for the Red Sox (don't let the ERA deceive you).
   489. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:53 PM (#2965523)
There's a couple cast-offs that have flourished in the Phils bullpen this year....Eyre, Romero, Seanez.
   490. Dan Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:55 PM (#2965524)
Here's Torres to eliminate the save opportunity.
   491. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:55 PM (#2965525)
In 2004, JC Romero was significantly better v RH than LH. But overall a fluke.
   492. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:55 PM (#2965526)
almost got rollins there...
   493. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2965527)
Somebody explain to me why "The Towering Inferno" of late is in the game?

Salomon was a lifesaver in July. Now he's a train wreck.......
   494. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2965528)
Looks like Mota is the "closer" if needed.
   495. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2965530)
I guarantee Lidge is going to appear. Every manager lets the "save" rule manage the game.
   496. BeanoCook Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2965531)
KENDALL GUNS DOWN ROLLINS!!!
   497. Harris Posted: October 02, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2965532)
wow....went from speed @ first & AB, with 0 outs and a 2-1 count, to bases empty on 2 pitches.
   498. BeanoCook Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:01 AM (#2965534)
If it wasn't for these d*mn starters and their big innings this team might have made a series of it.

the Brewers have allowed an earned run(s) in just 1 inning of the entire series.
