The Possibly-Temporary Postseason Day Two Game Chatter

Since the Game Chatter does NOT have today’s games up yet, I figured I’d submit a catch-all discussion thread which, if I’m lucky, someone will sticky until Game Chatter shows up.

LIGHTS OUT LIDGE!

The phillies have allowed an earned run(s) in just 2 innings of the entire series.
   504. BeanoCook Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2965542)
I want the media to start asking Lidge how special his perfect season record of saves is.
   505. Harris Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2965544)
post season appearances don't count do they?
If he were to blow a save now, wouldn't his streak still be alive?

It's actually 3. But it doesn't matter.

Somewhere, Albert Pujols salivates
   508. Harris Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2965548)
i'm still going to claim Lidge has gone back to tipping his slider, or it's not as effective as it was earlier.
Batters just don't seem to swing at it lately.

I guess you are right. No pressure then.

Now Hart takes a pitch.

the brewers run in the 9th yesterday was not earned.
   512. BeanoCook Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:07 AM (#2965553)
The announcers are acting like Lidge was trying to not throw strikes last night.
   513. BeanoCook Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:08 AM (#2965554)
He did score on error, but it was earned. According to box scores.
   514. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2965555)
Phillies win.
   515. Metman died today. Or yesterday maybe, Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2965556)
That was easy.

Brewers are dead. Nice knowing you

that's wrong then, because the batter behind that reached was a non-run forcing walk I think.

Whew.

Off to cook supper for wife.
   517. isaacc7 Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:13 AM (#2965558)
Ummm, is the Cubs chatter going to be here too?
   518. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:14 AM (#2965559)
So, who gets the call to save the season?

Be nice if someone other than Braun or Hardy got off the bus and played baseball.

And the bullpen. Just because the team lost let's not forget the solid efforts by that collective.
   519. Harris Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:16 AM (#2965560)
Tidbits:
Utley, Howard, Burrell...0-10 6K, 3 BB
Phils had 10 LOB.
Phils w/ RISP 3-15.

And they still won. Against CC Sabathia.
Baseball is so weird.

   522. isaacc7 Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:25 AM (#2965566)
So, yes then, the chatter continues here?
   523. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:26 AM (#2965567)
Fun with anagrams:

'Chicago Cubs-LA Dodgers Game Two'
becomes
'So huggable, dogmatic sacred cow.'

So, yes then, the chatter continues here?

Yes.
   525. Dan Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:29 AM (#2965571)
I'm kind of surprised that Fukudome is starting again, although at least this time Lou is batting him 8th.
   526. isaacc7 Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:32 AM (#2965572)
So any idea what happened with the primer chimp? Why no regular game chatter? I think Dome might have played himself into the lineup He had a couple of good plays in the field and did smack the ball hard a couple of times...
   527. Lassus: Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:34 AM (#2965573)
I am very bad luck for teams so far. I'm 2 for 5 in teams I've wanted to win so far.

   537. isaacc7 Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:46 AM (#2965587)
If the idiots calling the game did any research, they'd know this was a fairly typical lineup during the regular season
   538. Lassus: Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:46 AM (#2965588)
I feel like there would be a lot more cubs fans here if this were the actual chatter. Are we really supposed to be here?
   539. Andere Richtingen Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:48 AM (#2965589)
Come on Theriot, none of that crap.

Hey, if the Primate Chimp wasn't missing....

Is this the spot for chatter tonight?
   542. kcinlv Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:49 AM (#2965592)
Theriot looked horrible in that AB...just bunt for GOD's SAKE!!!
   543. frannyzoo Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:51 AM (#2965593)
I will be playing the designated "God, I hope the Cubs lose" role here in the faux chatter, at least for a minute or two. God, I hope the Cubs lose, and I highly dislike the Dodgers, the thought of the Dodgers in the postseason or even having to type the word Dodgers. But whiny Cubs fan has just put me over the top. Make it 500 years, 5,000 and it will still be too early for a Cubs championship.
   544. isaacc7 Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:51 AM (#2965594)

Billingsley is gonna make Martin ragged if he keeps pitching like this.
   548. Lassus: Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:52 AM (#2965598)
I'm rooting for the Cubs, they deserve to at least GET to the world series this year, undoubtedly.
   549. Lassus: Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:55 AM (#2965601)
I think that Aramis thought that one was going out.
   550. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:56 AM (#2965602)
I ALWAYS forget the Reds won the World Series in 1990.

I'm conflicted as to who I'm rooting for. I mean, I want the Cubs to finally give their fans that championship, but if Torre were to win the World Series, it would make the Yankees look so bad....

(I'm not going into the "Wrigley Field" reasoning I did last night. I like living)

Dumbass. Use your glove.
   552. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 12:59 AM (#2965604)
Theriot tried to get fancy, and look at what that got him.

YES, big strikeout!

   583. McCoy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:13 AM (#2965643)
Palin is doing alright, she is doing the "gosh darnnit, gee whillikers I'm just a small girl from a small town" thing. She is probably behind on points but who really knows how this will get scored. I'm sure if she doesn't fall on her face it will be declared a win for her.

####. That is all.
   586. bunyon Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:14 AM (#2965646)
Palin has done much better than the Cubs tonight. Of course she didn't admit to having Kang's baby which is all she could've done to be worse.
   587. Kazmir Effect Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:15 AM (#2965647)
Season over.

People who believe in curses are dumb, but so are people who don't believe that the intense pressure felt by the Cubs in the playoffs--pressure of a magnitude not experienced by any other team--affects them, turning sure-handed fielders into statues and patient hitters into hackers. This franchise will never win anything until they collectively delude themselves, a la the 2004 Red Sox.
   588. A One-Shoed Craig K Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:15 AM (#2965649)
holy ####

they're actually gonna lose the series
   589. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:17 AM (#2965650)
On the CNN Scoreboard, Biden is ahead on 5 of 6 scorecards. And the one where Palin is winning is from one of the conservative guys. At least, that is how I interpret them. They are somewhat confusing.

   592. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:18 AM (#2965653)
Wow, jeez folks, for all the Paper Lace references I'm starting to drop, the Cubs still have 7.1 innings left tonight!
   593. Justin T contains indigenous nudity Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:18 AM (#2965654)
Pitt @ South Florida might have a good finish.
   594. bunyon Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:19 AM (#2965656)
Not saying she's blown anyone away. But she hasn't looked as bad as the Cubs tonight who, if you haven't noticed, look like a third grade coach pitch team tonight.
   595. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:19 AM (#2965657)
#### this team up its stupid ass. Losing is one thing, but this is a ####### chokejob. Z had to get six outs in that inning. Theriot's play was bad, but DeRosa and Lee were just embarrassing. This is more humiliating than 2003. This team is done. I'm just beside myself right now.
   596. bunyon Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:20 AM (#2965658)
I agree with 596. Her answer to that was awful. But not as bad as Lee's error.

If you ####### aren't going to catch the ball, the least you can do is score some runs.
   598. isaacc7 Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:20 AM (#2965660)
They don't look good at all. Z is actually pretty sharp, the only hope they have is for him to keep it together.
   599. Sebastian Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:20 AM (#2965661)
This is the must win. I know that Harden and Lilly can win in LA, but I’m not sure if either of them can win in an elimination game. This team has come from big deficits often so I refuse to count them out. Last night they were ahead when I went to bed. Maybe tonight it will work the other way around. It ain’t over ’til it’s over. Until it is, of course. Which is tonight if they don’t turn it the #### around. Go team.
   600. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:20 AM (#2965663)
Correction, you have 7 innings left tonight. Cubs look biblically doomed.
