Three candidates get second interview for Mariners’ GM job

The Mariners are bringing back Jerry DiPoto, Tony LaCava and Kim Ng as they begin the final round of interviews today for their vacant general manager’s job.

DiPoto, 40, is director of player personnel for the Arizona Diamondbacks. LaCava, 47, is assistant general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays….

Ng, the Dodgers’ assistant GM, was in Los Angeles on Wednesday night as her club played Game 5 of the National League Championship Series. The exact time of her second interview could not be confirmed.

A fourth candidate has emerged as well - Brewers VP Jack Zduriencik

Sources say Inanimate Carbon Rod declined an interview.

Jerry DiPoto is 40? I remember him being something of a prospect in 93-94, but this means he must have been 25 then.

3 playoff appearances in 6 years, with a close miss in the 4th, is something the Mariners should definitely be trying to dodge.

LaCava... LaCava... LaCava!

Just say no to LaCava- Toronto still needs him.

a guy with one HOF vote, a guy i never heard of, and the chik. i hope the chik gets the job, it'd make an interesting story.

If I was a Brewers fan, I would be terrified every time a team was rumored to be considering Jack Zduriencik for their GM. Only being a Dodgers fan when Logan White would scare me as much. Of course, Doug Melvin inspires more confidence than Ned Colleti as a number one. Still, Zduriencik and White seem to have been the most consistantly excellent draft gurus over the last several years. It may have more to do with the scouting network underneath those two, but I would certainly feel much safer not losing one of those guys. (Especially the Brewers who don't have the luxury of LA's market size and have a bunch of players on the verge of big money and/or free agency.)

What jackass put down Jerry DiPoto's name for the Hall of Fame? I mean, Deshaies even makes more sense.

Here's hoping Ng gets the job.

EDIT: I'm assuming DiPoto is the one who got the vote, but a check of bbref shows he only had eight years MLB experience.

I think the poster in #10 confused DiPoto and Deshaies. The HoF web site has a section with complete vote totals for every player, and according to them, DiPoto has never received a vote.

I hope Ng gets the job, also, but I think it's a long shot.

I hope DiPoto gets it, seeing as he's the guy who paved the way for CBW to move from Primate to Diamondbacks' scout. And he was really a nice fellow when I interviewed him for a story I wrote on Carlos.

I like Ng. I wouldn't wish that job on her. They need someone with enough gravitas to slap Lincoln and Armstrong's hands when they try to meddle.

Sigh...and I was hoping the Mets would be able to divest themselves of Tony Bernazard in this fashion.

A woman running a baseball team? Aren't they worried she would menstruate all over the field?

I'm sure Bob Knepper agrees with you Mr. Alex.
