Todd Jones says he wants to pitch in ‘08

Well, Jones’ planned Marietta revival of “Take Me Out”...is just going to have to wait another year!

Leyland praised Jones’ pitch movement and command, and wondered aloud why he has not received more recognition across the nation.

“I don’t know how you can be around as long as him and still be a well-kept secret—particularly when you write a column,” quipped Leyland, referring to the weekly column Jones does for the Free Press. “Somebody ought to know you.

“I mean, this guy’s been fantastic. He gets credit from within here. I don’t know that he gets the credit outside that he deserves.”

..."When he takes the mound in the ninth inning, if we get beat, they hit the ball somewhere and they beat us,” Leyland said. “And I can live with that. I can’t live with walks and hit batsmen.”

Well of course he wants to pitch in 2008: he needs a little extra money before retiring, what with those steep buffet spreads he pays every day....

So do I.

Where do I report next spring to pick up my uniform and check?

Would it be out of line to suggest that the best way to go about this is not to suck in '07?

Best Regards

John

Would it be out of line to suggest that this is *exactly* the sort of line that cries out for a John Murphy (ri)post?

Todd Jones doesn't need you looking over his shoulder.

Unlike Todd Jones I will announce that I DON'T want to work in '08

Don't look now, but Todd Jones is currently the Tigers best reliever.

Which says a lot about the rest of Detroit's bullpen.

Jonesy's "chuck and pray" method has the side effect of making the fielders better by "keeping them on their toes."
