Townsend: MLB Network: Six Seconds of Stupid

Only six? Did your system experience hardcore tree fade pixelation or something?

Baseball fans were treated to something special last night when MLB Network decided to team up Chris Rose, Harold Reynolds and John Smoltz during their creatively titled MLB Tonight show.

Very special.

While discussing NL league leaders (top five) in ERA and WHIP, this quick exchange took place.

Reynolds: I can’t believe (Ubaldo) Jimenez isn’t on any of these lists.

Rose: Well, he has been struggling for the past two months.

Smoltz: Humidor.

*Laughing*

End scene.

Ugh.  I know there has to be an obligatory humidor mention anytime the Rockies are discussed – but seriously, why?  It had absolutely nothing to do with the statement Reynolds had made.  If Reynolds had said, “Hey, look, Jimenez is all over the leaderboard.”  Then you could make a legitimate humidor reference.

Smoltz: Humidor.

Reynolds: Steroids!

Rose: Mike Crudale!

*Laughing*

End scene.

Wow, someone's a wee bit touchy. Just as an FYI to the writer, Rockies' fans aren't the only ones "painted with a broad brush. Always full of cliched references."

What's wrong with a humidor reference there? The obvious implication being that it must be on the fritz.

I saw Louis C.K. last night and he had a joke about White People Problems, the idea being that people have it so good they need to make things up to complain about. This might fall into that category.

Shooty, how was it? Did he have a lot of new material? (I assume you've seen his stuff on DVD) I'm going to his show next month in D.C.

Maybe they thought he said Thermidor? Non sequitur references to the French Revolution are always comedy gold.

For instance:

Robespierre!

Amiright or amiright?

It was actually his concert film I went to, but he was there after the film and talked for about an hour. He's always good and he doesn't recycle material so you'll definitely see new stuff. He must be one of the hardest working comics going.

I have no interest in defending any of the panelists mentioned above, but really, are all Rockies fans this touchy about their little league park problem?

What problem? I haven't noticed any problem. It's a beautiful park.

It's a lovely park. It's just not a baseball park.

It's more like what Jose Seabiscuit wrote. There are some complaints about how the team, park, etc. being overlooked or painted with an overly broad brush. Then again, this is done to many teams, and these same Rockies fans will turn around and do the same to the Yankees and Red Sox.

A lot of Rockies fans don't understand their own park (I believe beat writer Troy Renck *still* believes Dante Bichette was robbed of the 1995 MVP), but OTOH you still get people on BTF who think doubling the road stats of a Rockies player yields a projection of what the player would do in a neutral park.

The Rockie announcers last night were killing (I think it was Poz) about Cargo's MVP splits. They starting throwing out Lynn & Rice's H/R splits and then a large spiky hair grew out of George Frazier's hardened ass which displeased everyone.

Or perhaps Termidor. Termite problems inside Studio 42?
