As for Torre, say what you want about him, but it seems like quite a few players took short(ish) money from the Yankees and said that they did so because they wanted to play for Torre.

Nope, but if Tex really gets 8/160 or something, that A-Rod contract may look like a bargain!
I read it as saying the players might have been locked up already instead of in limbo.
The real sweetener that the Yanks threw in was the chance to meet Madonna.
