yeah, the Winfield and Nixon dealings are sour notes, but as a Yankee fan it's somewhat tempered by other stories about his generocity - the best baseball example being how he gave Strawberry and Doc Gooden second chances when they had been written off. Steinbrenner is loathesome in a lot of ways, but there is a paternalistic side to him that is sometimes quite warm.
