Twins unveil new uniforms and official team marks for Inaugural Season at Target Field

“Twins fans have many exciting things to look forward to as we enter into a new era of outdoor baseball in Minnesota,” said Twins President Dave St. Peter. “New uniforms and logos are just the beginning of all of the new and exciting things we have in store for 2010 as the Twins begin a new chapter in Minnesota baseball history and celebrate our 50th season.”

Plans for the new uniforms and logos unveiled today include:

Inaugural Season Logo - Will be featured on the official commemorative baseballs and bases to be used during all Twins home games as well as on the team’s home uniforms and caps throughout the 2010 season.
Primary Logo - The team will have a new logo incorporating the new “Twins” script and the words “Minnesota Twins Baseball Club”.
50th Season Logo - Will be displayed on 2010 road jerseys and on the home throwback jersey.
Primary Home Uniform - The “Twins” script has been slightly altered and updated for 2010 and beyond.
Secondary Throwback Uniform - Twins players will wear a circa 1961 throwback uniform on Opening Day as well as every home Saturday during the 2010 season. The uniforms are modeled after the wool version worn during the team’s first season in Minnesota.
Primary Road Uniform - Twins players will wear new solid grey road uniforms (no pinstripes) in 2010 featuring a “Minnesota” script inspired by the team’s original “Minnesota” script found on the players jackets from 1961-1986.

Thanks to Tom.

No pictures? I guess I'll just imagine that it is indeed true that Joe Mauer will wear the Shroud of Turin.

Not a big fan of the new road unis. I was very fond of the old ones, and the new ones remind me of the Washington road jerseys (even though theirs have red letters). Also, I'll miss the M hat a lot, and I don't like the red bill on the road hat.

The Star Tribune has a nice gallery up.

I am a fan of the new logo with the "Twins" script in the blue circle.

I hope so, if it means cross-promotions at the ballpark. Mmmmmmm.

Like the home primaries, REALLY like the home throwbacks, and the road grays ... blah. Are they any different from the Nats? Are you sure you want to invite that comparison?

EDIT: #5 beat me to it.

I'm actually arguing that they should make the "throwback" the regular jersey; it's better than the other one. I dislike the idea of "alternate" jersey schemes, which is why the Mets piss me off - it's like they have nothing BUT alternate jerseys.

Road unis are, generally speaking, pretty dull. I wish someone would liven things up, as there's a lot of opportunities to get creative with a blank slate uni. The Nippon Ham Fighters road jersey might be the best one in all of pro baseball.

My biggest problem with them is that I'm afraid that someone's going to throw a perfect game wearing a throwback jersey, and the highlights will live on forever. I like historic moments to represent the time period accurately. I think it would be strange if the footage of Kevin Slowey's no-hitter (one of his many, I'm sure :) ) showed him in a 1960's era Twins jersey.

It's very possible that when I'm older, I will be much more receptive to the idea of the throwback jersey.

The new Early Seasons package comes in authentic Walter Johnson flannel, while the Fall Classic line comes with lightweight Gortex and Thinsulate (from 3M!)

That looks like something you'd see at the University of Oregon.

If the new roads had a red script instead of navy, they would be much better.
   18. JohnQ  Posted: November 16, 2009 at 04:47 PM (#3388958)
I don't like when teams mix up their color combination: Navy letter/red border, red numbers navy borer, it always looks like someone made a mistake at the uniform shop. I think the Orioles used to this if I'm not mistaken.
   19. morineko  Posted: November 16, 2009 at 04:54 PM (#3388972)
Does this mean the vest uniforms are finally going away?

re #14: I think it would be strange if the footage of Kevin Slowey's no-hitter (one of his many, I'm sure :) ) showed him in a 1960's era Twins jersey.

The Twins are one of those teams where the pitchers pick the day's uniform, right? If that's the case Slowey tends to pick the blue alternate 99% of the time so if you're really a uniform purist that's also going to grate.

The Twins are one of those teams that has never changed their uniforms in my memory, so this is cool.

The throwback blue script letters with red border remind me of what the Whiz Kid Phillies used to wear. Although they're even more similar to what the Twins used to wear, the collar and sleeve borders seem to be taken from the Robin Roberts photo.

Red with navy outline would probably look better, I think. The thin red outline sort of looks orange instead of red, at least to someone with decades of seeing this color scheme.

On the other hand, in Jonk's red rendering, the script "Minnesota" looks exactly like the script "Washington" on the Nationals jerseys.

I've been wanting the Twins to redesign the Logo and the uniforms for a really long time. I was hoping they would go in the direction that they did, with a cursive script, but the road uniforms turned out ugly. Put me in the Flynn bin: the home unis are sweet, the road unis are generic.

Sounds like a lot of you graduated from the Turn Ahead the Clock Night school of baseball uniforms. These uniforms are nice, the roadies especially. I was perfectly happy with their old ones, though, I don't see the need for a change. In general, teams should stick with the uniforms they wore when I was eight years old and never change.
   29. Charlie O  Posted: November 16, 2009 at 07:31 PM (#3389064)
I'm okay with the white home and road gray uniforms. The blue one needs to go. I don't much like the new logo. I have always been fond of the logo with Minnie and Paul shaking hands over the river with the state silhouette in the backgraound. The image is super cool in its uniqueness and it should be on the sleeve of every Twins jersey and jacket. I also favor the "TC" logo on the cap.

It features prominently in the new park. The two will shake hands every time a Twin hits a homerun.

And every time an opponent hits a homerun, they should scowl at each other or hit each other with bats or something.

It's a shame they're not Siamese Twins--they could be surgically separated.

It's a shame they're going to lose the throwbacks they'd been using on weekend games the last couple of seasons. Those were the best uniforms in major league baseball.

"Turn Ahead the Clock Night" fills my head with images of people playing baseball in shiny silver uniforms--like the outfits Dr. Evil designed in Austin Powers.

Very good. I like retro. I don't like ostentatious. I like pinstripes. Mission accomplished.

BUT THEY GOT RID OF THE AWAY PINSTRIPES! GRRRR

(Sorry, I need to go home soon.)

The throwback blue script letters with red border remind me of what the Whiz Kid Phillies used to wear.

The Phils now wear versions of those on afternoon home games. Very cool.

Love the new home unis, but, yeah, the road unis kind of suck.

Doesn't Denard Span look like Zoilo Versalles? I had never thought that both were #2 before.
   40. KingKaufman  Posted: November 16, 2009 at 10:36 PM (#3389124)
I like the road unis. I don't like pinstripes on road uniforms. Road uniforms SHOULD be dull and gray. With the name of the city (or in this case state) in block letters, like the Yankees and Red Sox do it. Anything else is presumptuous. You're the road team. Be quiet.

This is actually pretty cool when it happens. Otherwise, the unis and pics of the stadium will narrow things down to a particular decade; but whenever I see a highlight of Khalil Greene making a diving stop in a 1984 jersey, I know it was from that one Friday night against the Cubs in 2004.
   42. billyjack  Posted: November 17, 2009 at 01:25 AM (#3389204)
I like the new Twins duds.

General comment on MLB pinstripes is that the pinstripes are too thick on teams' current uniforms. The current Yanks stripes (I think) should be thinner like back with Mantle. The Mets jersey pinstripes on #23's link is really too thick also.

Mantle pinstripes vs ARod pinstripes and Teixeira pinstripes

and Ernie Banks pinstripes vs Lou Piniells Cubs pinstripes and Ted Lilly pinstripes

Glad they got rid of the pinstripes on the road uniforms (it just doesn't look right). Now if only the Rockies would make purple, rather than black, the dominant color on their caps and alternate jerseys -- since no one else uses that color, you might as well take advantage of it.

Good point. But maybe they're both darker AND thicker. Here's another example...

I might agree with you if they did it just once. But when they wear throwbacks every Saturday home game, it destroys the novelty of it. Also, if I'm watching baseball with my kids ten years from now, and they see a highlight of the Twins in throwbacks, they might think they wore those unis all the time circa 2010. It's not the end of the world (none of this uniform stuff is), but it just doesn't sit right with me.
