University of Michigan to name professorship after Branch Rickey

The man who helped break baseball’s color barrier by signing Jackie Robinson to a big league contract is being recognized by the University of Michigan with a professorship named in his honor.

The U-M Board of Regents will be asked Thursday to approve the creation of the collegiate professorship named after Branch Rickey, who graduated from the U-M Law School in 1911.

..Money for the professorship came from the Judy & Fred Wilpon Foundation, Major League Baseball, and the Zell Family Foundation, among other donors.

Yet Fred...not a penney for a Chub Feeney professorship at Dartmouth College. Interesting.
