USA Today: Embattled McLaren, Randolph, Yost fight on

The Kid From Seattle...Yum Yum Eat’em Up!

They read the rampant speculation they’ll soon be fired, hear the talk shows calling for their heads and see the concern on the faces of friends and family.

Baseball managers John McLaren of the Seattle Mariners, Willie Randolph of the New York Mets and Ned Yost of the Milwaukee Brewers have had recent reassurances and support from their bosses, but winning is the only element guaranteed to spare them from the proverbial hot seat.

“It’s not a real good feeling knowing there’s a target on our back,” McLaren said Monday in a telephone interview. “I don’t even read the computer anymore. Those blogs will eat you up, no matter what.

“My God, we know we’re better than this (18-33). But I don’t make excuses. I accept it. I’ve always been a fighter, and I will keep on fighting.”

How do you read the computer, unless your keyboard is in Braille?

The Mets need to send Mike Pelfrey down. He is holding his own against right-handed hitters but he simply doesn't have any weapons to use against lefties. Personally, I would just insert Pedro into the rotation and not bother with a rehab start but if they really want Martinez to make a rehab start, just use Armas. When Pedro's ready, cut Wise and use Armas as a reliever. Wise has been useless.

Edit- Pedro is scheduled to start on June 3rd.

I can't stand your snark. Here we have a manager willing to acknowledge that computers exist, and you immediately rip him. You make me sick.

Anyway, I think most of us knew the Mariners were overrated coming into the season, but who knew they were going to be this bad? The last week and a half is probably one of the worst stretches of baseball of the last few decades. At least tonight they scored some 9th inning runs and only lost by 2.

Yet another reason why McClaren should be fired: leaving in Felix in the eighth during Monday's game. At some point, it would become obvious that he was done (also probably tired after seven innings of one-run ball) once he gave up a ground rule double, an intentional walk and a single. But no, instead of walking to the mound to hook 'em, Mac decided to leave him in so he can give up two more singles and a walk. F*ing brilliant. Way to A) wear out your young stud pitcher, B) absolutely RUIN his confidence, and C) lose the game.

As a Felix fantasy owner, I send a hearty FU to Mac. As a fan of an AL West rival, I say, keep on keeping on, big guy!

It's kinda odd how blogs get singled out now as somehow being overly harsh and critical yet the stuff being said is nothing more than has always been expressed on talk radio or at the ballpark. I guess it's because the blogs have a permanent record of everything that's said and you can see it all at once.

He meant that literally. To many people, "blogs" are man-eating wolf-like creatures.

read the computer is actually a pretty good saying. I like it, it seems to acknowledge that things that are written on the internet have at least some legitimacy. He said it like how someone 10 years ago would have said "I don't even read the paper anymore". I don't think it was really a non sequitur, although it seems jarring at first glance.
