I think the implication is that he doesn't think things anyone else doesn't think, he just shares them. Which can be helpful a lot of times, and hurtful some other times. Some people appreciate it.
That is still my favorite incomprehensible deal of all time.
This is spot on. I think many of us give the players a free ride on some stuff and I reckon its nice to hear that an owner or gm actually sits down with a guy once in awhile and says, "well you know, you kind of stunk this year and we are paying you a premium." Maybe his tact is lacking, but the concept is good IMHO.
I know at my work that if people don't perform, they get politely pulled aside and reminded of their duties. Then again I'm the owner like Colangelo, so maybe my perspective is skewed.
